Utah!

I never heard an answer.... So since my 11 week old chicks are just fine with my main flock, what do I feed them? Can I just feed All Flock or do I need to feed Flock Grower? I put out some chick starter this morning just for the chicks and the other girls were no where in site, and within a minute they were pushed out and the feeding crazy began. Amazing out the older hens love it so much. I do have Oyster Shell, so that should take care of the issue with feeding straight layer feed right?

And its going to be 70 today. Thinking about taking the 2 week old chicks outside in the grow out pen when the sun hits it about 1pm. I think they will be fine in 70 and direct sunlight. Even for a few hours.

I give my birds all flock when there are teens out there growing out, at least until they are about 4 months old, then I switch back to layer. I also give the young ones mealy worm treats for extra protein. No matter where I put the "little girls" food, the big girls just chow it all down, so I gave up with the chick starter.

Thanks, I will go get some All Flock today. They do get to go out in the mega tall grass just about every day for 5-6 hours. And they find worms and stuff out there, you always hear them outside fighting over them.

I'm just so surprised at how well they did yesterday with being out. I was sure the big girls would chase them all over the place, but they could really careless that they were out and about. I don't know, maybe because they were in the middle of the main run for 4 weeks. Who knows.

I am new to joining the BYC community. I have been raising chickens for the past year in Utah and am an urban garden enthusiast. I am putting together a business plan to open a new concept store in Utah and wanted to poll people for the feed that they buy and would like to see carried in the state of Utah. This will help me finish up the wholesale pricing for this new endeavor. Thanks in advance for the help!

I like the Purina line, from chickens to horses to dogs. Never had a recall in my experience. I do skip the high omega feed, pricey and I think just a marketing ploy. My eggs look/taste awesome compared to any "organic" eggs at Whole Foods.

Welcome!

I just buy the stuff at CAL Ranch, or the IFA 18 % short pellets. I also find that messing with the feed does not seem to matter much, but give them as much greens on the side as possible.

Just let all my silkie babies & Dixie out in a play pen outside to enjoy the warm sun today and boy do they love it. Infact the babies seem to like to use dixie like she's their mother lol, its so cute :)

I guess its the season isn't it. This weekend i will be out checking for bumble foot and operating if need be. It seems like free range chickens have a tendency to be more susceptible then chickens raised in a coop. I actually like to do the procedure and am willing to help anyone out that is not quit sure what they are doing. It is something that all chicken parents need to learn.
