Utah!

Off topic--my dog napping. I vacuumed all around him and he did not budge. Such a weirdo, he fits right in

My dog does the exact same thing! When I vacuum or mop she just lays there and looks at me like"what? I was here first!"
He actually looks a little bit like mine. What kind is he?

Okay Utahns, I have a question and by all means...you can laugh at me if you wish. I have been doing some reading on the internet and have come across several chicken keeping blogs that talk about bumblefoot. Um, do we have issues with bumblefoot in Utah?? I have honestly never heard of it until now. Neither myself or my husband had ever seen it in any of the flocks we were around growing up and I spoke with a neighbor that has kept chickens for many years and she hadn't ever heard of it either. Is it more common in places that have more humidity?? Or has it just been pure luck that we haven't experienced it yet?

Here's my white baby that im thinking is a possible roo? What do you think you guys? He's a month old and the comb looks like its widening and thats whats making me think boy. He's super fluffy and already you can see a nice beard/crest. He's already very fluffy and just look at those beautiful legs! Cynthia, let me know if you may be interested in him/her. We could always trade if you like him ;)

okay, so the hubby said he would really rather build his own, than start with a crate... SO... that being the case, if someone would like to go get the 4x4x8 container (8 ft long) for FREE.... it's in Heber at the Strawberry Storage. You can call them up, they have a tractor to load it there.
There are no pictures, but the guy said they're very sturdy plywood. I want to say that he said it was hinged, but don't quote me on that!

you can call Frank and tell him "Leslie decided not to get it and said it was ok"

here's the link for Strawberry Storage

http://strawberrystorage.com/

they stop answering the phones at 6, but you can leave a message after hours... they said they will be there for a little bit later than normal this evening, because they're moving stuff.

oh, there was another gentleman that said he MIGHT be back this weekend for that container, so... if you want it, I'd act quickly!

If you still want to try it....They do good in a box on the floor, with a little heat turned on the floor setting....with the sun out you could just set them by the window that the sun is shining though on, that would do the trick! If you bring a brooder lamp there is electricity in the booths you could use. Just bring an extension cord, some of them do not reach.

ok I will take them. They are all so beautiful. Most of them are starting to frizzle. Even the chick out of the legbar egg is frizzling. Sphynx you can see your grand chickie

Fun. have you seen all the people wanting frizzles on the chickenstock thread? They will sell like hotcakes.

CYNTHIA-that white is so cute, he does look like a he! Hope the collar works for you. I get my big rooster Saturday so really really hoping it works on him. If not, ummm oh well Haha :D

Abkoldewyn:
He is a peke-pom, 1/4 pekingese and 3/4 pomeranian. We love him to pieces!

Bumble foot is not caused by humidity. It's caused by them bumping too hard on something, like the floor of the coop as they jump off, or if they get a splinter, even it it gets out someway or another, it can cause bumble foot. I have done the bumble foot surgery a few times now. Very easy. Seems like it would be ohhh so painful for them, but when you cover up their faces, and they can't see, they just lay there while you cut! Pretty strange. I had to do two chickens last fall. I'll see if I can find the photos of them all bandaged up. They will get swollen between the toes and on the toes. You will notice a difference in the feet.
Both of these decided to get them at the same time. I put a piece of carpet where they jump down from the coop to stop this. So far so good.
Softer landing..with the shavings underneath the carpet.

Can anyone bring a hen back to the SLC area from the chickenstock. I am getting the hen from Le Casa de Pollo and she can take her to the Chickenstock.
