I have a feeling my little silkie is a boy. This sneaky suspicion grows more and more each day. I have always wanted a silkie hen![]()
Does anyone on here sell big, boofy, bearded silkies?? Any chance of purchasing one that is about a month old and really looks to be a pullet??
It really looks and acts masculine if that makes sense. I can't be 100% as this is the first silkie I have ever owned. It's really a cutie. It will be four weeks this Thursday. So I need to give it more time I just wanted to see if anyone sold babies on here so that I can have someone in mind to call once I know for sure.I'm excited about my white one outside..it's looking like a boy. I want to breed. He is finally getting his muff. He is just three months old. I was a bit worried he wouldn't have much of one, but remembered that they can take a while before they get it. I knew that the gal I hatched the eggs from had bearded silkies. So, saw that he has a lot of pin feathers around his neck last week, then yesterday noticed..poof! It's coming.! Wait, see what yours does. Are you sure it's a boy?
Anyone in the west jordan area, what do you keep your brooder lamp heat at during the night?? I'm worried they'll get to warm tonight. I've had the lamp on for about 15 min. And it's about 85°F they are about 3 1/2 weeks old. Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

The way I judge is by the chicks' behavior. If they are cuddled together in the middle of the light, move the lamp down a bit. If they are far away from the lamp spread out, move it up a bit. You are fine to keep the night temp the same as the day temp. Then wean them off of it as they get older.
