Utah!

I sooo need to do this. I have a bunch of the nipples, my DH bought a half dozen or so of them, and I just need to make the darn thing. I was really wanting to put something in the big dog house coop they are brooding in, there is no way to hang anything up in there. It is heavy plastic... But what if we make them a little ramp so they can get in and out of that (The lip of the door is about 6 inches up.) and put the waterer just outside the door hanging on the wire....does the mama teach the chicks how to get in and out of the coop if it is that low to the ground? I am so worried they won't get out of the house to the food and water.
If you use the horizontal nipples it doesn't have to hang. Just get a container that will sit flat on the bedding and put the nipple at a height so it won't get covered up with bedding or set the container on a block of wood. The nipple is on the side, not underneath so you have a lot of options. The mama will call the chicks to her. They follow really well.

It's there anyone near slc that has the French black copper marans hatching eggs? The last ones I got didn't have feathered legs so I know I didn't get what I was looking for. Any info would be awesome p.s. I'm a newbie to byc

Wendy might, her birds are awesome too! Her user name is Sphinx. She's up in the North Ogden area but comes down to Taylorsville a lot.

I have a Blue Copper Roo over some FBCM hens, for blue and black babies....but am just setting the first batch of eggs to check fertility, so will know in a week or two if they are viable. Crossing fingers! If so, I would be glad to save eggs for you in a few weeks. Sphinx has beautiful Blacks though and is closer for sure! I am up in Logan. I have some from Sphinx growing out, (almost 5 months, yay!) and they are gorgeous.

So my other Silkie has gone Broody, 2 days with her in the box. I just want to cry, its day 18 on my other 4 eggs, I candled them last night and they look great. All moving, so I left the 2 blue eggs with the original broody momma, and then gave the 2 brown eggs to the Porcelain Silkie. And now the Partridge has been in the box for 3 days. I don't know if I should just wait her out for another week, and then get her some eggs, because they should then hatch after I get home, or if I just give her 1 of the eggs that should hatch this week. I kind of feel bad if I do give her just one egg, then both my Silkies only have 1 chick if I do that.

Anyone have any chicks hatching this week that I can just buy like 2 just hatched chicks and see if they will take those. I just feel bad if they only have one chick, and does the chick get lonely like if it was just one in the brooder box?

I have chicks due tomorrow, but they are the eggs that went cold overnight so not sure if I will have extras, will let you know! I had 12 quail eggs in there and only three hatched last night, the chicken eggs were due just a little later so crossing fingers.

Thanks! just trying to think how to get them with you so very far north. I was kind of thinking about running to the feed store the day they hatch and hope they have really small bantams or something. Not like I need anymore chicks right now. I have 8 chicks outside causing terror on the older hens from the Easter Hatch Along. 1 RIR, 1 Ameraucana, and then 6 OE. I need to get some photos of the OE, and see if anyone can tell me which ones are pullets. They all look about the same to me, but different colors. I would love to sell off at least 3 of them in the next week or so before I leave for a week. I think my neighbor might die knowing how many I really have in the backyard, because his kids are coming over to feed and water them everyday. And I'm way over my legal limit right at the moment, but they are all chicks, I only have 9 out of 12 limit on my Adult Birds. So I don't think anyone would really say. Plus I'm re-homing my 1 year old RIR, 2 EE's to my husbands best friend when he gets his coop done. He's also taking one of the OE pullets. So I will be good on numbers. So I can still add my Frizzle. Ooohhh and I'm with Sundance, I would love a Frizzle Turken. I totally love my Ollie that I got from Lisa last year, and I still miss my Pokey.

I've got everything crossed for those little eggs! I can't wait to see pics when they hatch! I also can't wait for your girls to decide to start laying again. My little bator is trying very hard to be patient.

Hopefully it won't be long! The Silkie/SG eggs hatching are from the partridge roo. Should be cute babies, if any hatch....also I have some OE from my Ameraucanas and Blue marans Roo.....hope some of the eggs are still viable, there was movement in some last week.

Now the silkies and SG hens are in with Ernie the frizzle roo and that black/blue silkie roo (Cinders) from Cynthia...they are both trying to mate the girls when they come out of the henhouse to eat....so when they start laying I am hoping for Blue/Black/Splash Silkies and SG, and some that may be frizzled. Hoping to get you some eggs someday soon! Their eggs they are sitting on should Hatch Fri, Sat and Sun, so how long after they become mommies do they start laying again? Hopefully not too long.
