.. Im a little freaked out. I think my chickies might have eaten some fertilizer. I'd be more surprised if they didnt since they are tiny white dots, and would easily attract them. Should I be worried? I put them in the shed for now so they are off the lawn.

well, I bet mine have eaten fertilizer, and it hasn't hurt them.... just water your lawn, and they should go away soon enough hope they'll be ok!

Oh good, then I hope it'll be ok. I just wasent sure how serious it was for them to eat it. We're watering it over night and then i'll let them back out tomorrow.

Ugh, I saw rats in my chick coop last night! Mice are a given, but I about had a heart attack after seeing how big a couple of those "mice" were. I watched out a window with binocs to make sure they didn't go after the teen-chicks, especially the little blind dude, and they didn't... so my husband is rat hunting tonight. I would have set out mousetraps but these buggers would have just hauled them off, ugh! and I wouldn't have seen them except we got a few cold nights so I put the light on for my new white one from Diana. (who is settling in great with her new guy, they are never far apart and I didn't need to remove the 2 other girls!)

In nearly 15 yrs here, we've never seen anything larger than a field mouse. But come to think of it, we also haven't had the fox problem we've usually had...so whatever got the fox(es) (gulp) obviously gave the rodents a break. I'm almost thinking I'd rather deal with a fox now and then...

I Luv, how are your chicks doin' today after the fert scare? We usually burn our weeds but my husband admitted that he tried some roundup this year (no rainy spring) on a few aggressive weeds. He promised it was in places the horses or chickens don't go but I'll pray for rain LOL.

They all seem to be fine today thank goodness. I think I moved them all in time. My husband also sprays weed killer everywhere including really close to the chicken coop but always swears its not near them. I saw fertilizer beads all lining around the corral panels by my horse to Whoever was the guy who came out to do it, you'd think would be more careful..? It better not hurt my horse or I may let loose on someone. So far everyone looks ok.

My turkey hen is broody :| I guess this means my supply of delicious turkey eggs has dried up for a while.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. My camera is still up, and probably will be for a while. It takes a picture every five or ten seconds, day or night. I'm pretty sure we'll have some deer shots on there, by now. It will be interesting to see what else it catches.

If anyone wants Icelandic hatching eggs, I have some for sale. $4 a dozen, and I work evenings in Murray so you don't have to travel to Tooele. I also have a few Icelandic chicks that are for sale. They're a few weeks old and are very curious and friendly. I think at least two are roos, but I can't guarantee it.

So I haven't been all since last week. I guess I need to catch up. Anyways... I'm going to Colorado, Pagosa Spring July 5th if anyone has a far out chicken train. I can just see my husbands face if I told him I was taking birds with us. Blahaha! I just thought I would through it out there.

My momma's with the 4 chicks are doing awesome. I really would say that the Cochin is 100% mom, the Silkie just hangs out. But it broke her of being broody. They are still in the grow out pen together, and I'm still not sure what to do with them when I'm gone, because we have the neighbor boy coming every 2-3 days to check on food and water. I only have 2-5 gallon nipple waters in the yard, their 3 gallon fountain in the coop, and then I will leave out 2 other 1 gallons, plus they have their 13 lb feed which I usually only fill once a week since they get so much free range out in the grassy yard. So I'm not too worried about them. He's really probably only going to have to get the eggs. But I'm not sure what to do with the momma's/babies. Because I don't know if he can manage getting in my baby coop. And I don't want to have to bug his parents to help him out. Do you think that they would be okay with everyone out? They will have 100% free range of the whole yard, since the dogs are going into boarding, they won't have to split time, so they have free range, plus my yard is privacy fenced, they can't get out. Just not sure what to do with them yet.

And my other Partridge Silkie is going on 3 weeks of just sitting, I take her out at least 3 times a day, and she usually stays out for about 10 minutes and goes back in. I did try separating her for 5 days, but that didn't seem to work. When I took her back outside she just went right back to sitting. I tried the rabbit hutch thing, but with a wire dog crate since I don't have a rabbit hutch. No go...
Any thoughts? I guess I could buy 4-5 eggs from someone I guess.

why are you useing chemical fertilizers? just use chicken manure, its a lot better and does not have the dangers or the environmental risks of chemical fertilizer. and i would not want weed killer anywhere near animals if you must use it, keep in mind that even the faintest breeze can carry the spray to the animals. and then you worry about the dead weeds being taken into the animals. people do not realize the dangers of this kind of stuff. so if i were you i would go with organic methods all you can. did you know boiling water is one of the best weed killers you will ever find? i am sorry you had this scare. hopefully all your girls will be fine
