I e only been looking for them for 2 years lol. I paid an arm and a leg for just 1 but it was worth it:)
Oh common, was it really an arm and a leg? ;) It was only the fluffiest one I had! lol.

thanks lisa:)

I'm so happy I finally got me a pretty silkie:) and a paint at that lol. I've been leaning towards a rooster too.
This was the one I thought looked the most like a roo, but it's also the fluffiest one out of all the babies. Will make a great breeder for sure. Watch that comb. It's still small enough that it can be a girl. I have one of it's siblings that I am thinking can be a roo to, but decided to keep it for breeding either way. But this one was by far the fluffiest. Perfect toes, feet feathering/crest. I let it go because it had the fewest spots but it's still a paint and will pass that on to his/her babies :)

Snow, here, too. We got at least a couple of inches.

Hey Brian!

iPick, those all look like EE's to me

I love seeing all the pictures of everyone's birds. SO great! Snow here for a while too. Total white-out! Mostly melted now, and the sun is attempting to come out.

One of my chicks (a barred rock) died this morning. I'm not sure what happened. I checked on them all around 7:30--they were all moving around the box, took my daughter to school, came home, got ready for the day (because that always happens after I drop-off at school lol!) and went to go take care of the food/water and she just lying there, kinda sprawled out. I thought maybe she was sleeping, because I could see her breathing, but when I touched her she didn't really respond. So I picked her up and she was pretty limp. I think she might have aspirated or choked on some food because her breathing was kind of gaspy. I tried giving her some water, thinking maybe she was just dehydrated, and she kinda drank it. But around 10 minutes later she died while I was holding her. She's had a few struggles, but I thought she was finally ok--she had been active, eating and drinking and such.

Anyway, I knew it was a risk, but darn it! Now I'm trying to decide if I should get a few more or just stick with my 3 right now. Ordinances here only allow me about 5-6 on my property size. I was planning on getting some more next year anyway, so maybe I'll just wait until then.

Haha I knew that was you briana hahaha. I love him!! And no he wasn't that much I was just pulling your chain lol:):) my fiance wants more paints haha. I knew he would like them.

the one I got I think is gorgeous. I love the champagne coloring throughout his body.I have a black showgirl that I'm 86% sure it's a female. I'd love to breed the paint to the showgir.

I'm trying my hand at breeding chickens of my own this year. It's been tough for me to find chick's or eggs so I will try it this year. I'm not allowed roosters but my neighbors don't care if I have them so maybe I should lol. I really want to find a salmon faverolle rooster for my breeder. I just love them so much. I've got a barred rock maran mix rooster now but I'm more interested in a more colorful rooster. Now I just got to find them:):)

this is the rooster I have for now until I can find a more colorful one:) sorry for the photo bomb lol. I havent talked chickens very much in a long time:) hope every one us staying warm out there.

Red, your birds are very pretty, I sure wished you had better luck with the hatching, been kind of disappointing to watch the struggle you have gone through. Sorry 'bout that for sure. We had a few inches of snow this a.m. but it is going quickly now. When I dropped the pop door this morning, everyone rushed out onto the platform, but soon headed back inside for 'better' climate. Silly things…

Red, thanks again for sharing your photographs of the lovely Viking chickens. I might have to put out feelers for some of them this spring. I might find them as intriguing as do you.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

And on a parting shot, a picture of my OEG Silver Duckwing hen in the bath.
