Utah!

My Wyondotte is the one that got me into hatching..yep, blame her.  Looked up broody hens, was told to make sure I had an incubator for back up..good thing, she literally flew the coop when those eggs started to pip, and make noise..she would not come back to that nest.   I hurried them into my bator, and wal ah!  I had babies.    Boy, did I get hooked.

That's kind of funny that she got nervous when the eggs hatched. Silly girl. What did she think was going to happen if she sat on them??

Lpeaslee, I put some shipped eggs under a broody last year, and the ones that hatched hatched a day late. I'll be hoping for you! Let us know how it goes.

Lisa, beautiful chickens!

LPeaslee, maybe some of them are just a little late? I know shipping is hard on eggs.

Ace, those are some fine chicks

Then you will finally get back to yourself.

Lisa, love that fav. Marans hen of yours, she is a beauty! Hope that new roo comes around. He needs to man up! lol..

Ace, I know what you mean about watching those mixed breeds, they can be fun...here are a couple that I am loving, that black one reminds me of one of my very first girls yrs. ago that I just loved, so happy that this is a pullet!

That's the boy frizzle for sale, there's the black and white mix, and the red..came from a beautiful olive egg! Hope she doesn't lay too much darker than what she came from..getting more of those eggs for this EHAL.

And that little brown and blue, she is the one with the fluffy butt..love those with the big skirts..she will have that. So cute!

Lisa, where did you get your new roo? I have a couple of rooster collars coming..did you ever try them? I did, but, these look a little better than the last one I got, so, will give a try. Would be so neat to have a rooster back there. Brain always lucks out and gets the sweet roosters. This barred rock he has is a sweetheart!

I'm so excited! Just got a message from the guy that is sending me my Marans eggs. He is sending 15. He says he gets 25% blacks, 25% splash, and 50% blues when he hatches. Man, I want a splash so bad, and a blue. Come on Cynthia, do this right.
Lisa! Are they harder to hatch? I've heard the darker eggs are harder, but, I've also read some say, no problem here. ??

Cynthia, yep, pretty much. I don't know if I should wait until Thursday or not to set. I realized that I have a problem. DH and I will be out of town on the 26 thru the 29, so I won't be here to turn the eggs on those days. They will be close to lockdown. By some wild chance, is there anyone that would be willing to babysit my incubator for those days? All you do to turn the eggs is turn the whole incubator on it's side.

6kidsfarm, I am running out of room in there, also. I can still put some eggs in for you, but it will probably be less than twelve. What say you?

Got the two roos from Birdguy in Id. Falls. I have tried the collars with not much luck. Might need to try again with Yoshi, that little black silkie roo from you, he screeches all day lol it is really high pitched. Love him though, he is a sweetheart. OH shoot, I was going to get a pic for you, need to do that. Ernie the blue frizzled SIkie roo was decrowed , love that boy he is soooo quiet, he just chirps like a bird, no one would know it is a crow. I will keep him til he is no longer <3 he gets along with other roos really well too.

My new Marans roo is sweet---so funny last night the two marans roosters were in the yard, and I noticed with this new guy around, the old guy was a mating machine. MY DH was laughing about how many times per minute..about three -4 for a good half hour haha! The new boy has him a little worried, I think! It was even dusk. when they are a lot less active. hopefully will be getting more fertile eggs, it has been frustrating. However, all my Wheaten Marans' eggs have been fertile for the last two weeks, so I am definitely setting those. Mesha said sometimes with a wheaten and a blue copper you can get wheaten colored babies. That would be awesome, her eggs are really nice and dark.

Dryhatch them for sure. No water til the lockdown. If they are dark and glossy especially! If you use water, then usually the goop, remember that? The membrane is squishy and gel-like, and full of slime. with no water, lots better with the goop.

This guy must be breeding Blue to Blue then, that is awesome--the splash are really pretty, I am hoping for more of those in a month or so when my blue hens are laying better, just one started and then kind of stopped. But the egg was really nice <3!
