Utah!

My frizzle is named Ms Frizzle too. I wonder how many frizzle end up with that name?

Not sure if that's a pullet or not, but my bantam Cochin most people thought was a boy turned out to be an awesome hen.

My mama EE Frizzle is "Frizzbee", her OE daughter is Minnie (mini-Frizz) and her OE granddaughter is Micro (Microfrizz) LOL I have to give them weird names like that to help me remember who begat who. Haha :thumbsup

Hello from Utah County! This is my first winter as a chicken momma and the night Temps are already freaking me out! Oh its going to be a long winter.

Hi everyone, I sold off my flock to a nice lady in August on KSL, and was having some trouble contacting her. I just wanted to let her know that if she needed any help in the event of a chicken emergency she could give me a call and I would be happy to assist. No pressure, only if she felt comfortable of course. I tried shooting her a text but I haven't heard back from her, and I don't want to come across as nosy so I will just put this here in the hopes that maybe she might see it. I thought it was worth a shot.

These are the chickens that I sold: 3 buff orpingtons, 4 plymouth rocks, and 1 rhode island red/buff orpington mix. I also remember she already had 4 hens and a nice red coop, and when she came to pick them up we put them in storage bins and I gave away all of their supplies as a bonus.

I know they aren't mine anymore, so hopefully I didn't offend her, but if I knew she just got the message I could rest easier knowing I did everything I could to look out for them potentially.

Thanks!

One of my girls was limping today. Bumble foot. I feel bad that she's in pain but, this is going to sound silly, I'm actually a bit excited to treat it. Lol.
Are you going to do the surgery? If you don't get results from the surgery (that is what happened with a couple of mine) I tried the Tricide Neo soak and it is very effective! It took much longer of course since I can usualy only soak on the weekends but it worked really well. After my first 2 birds endured 4 surgeries with no luck (and we were so deep and big I was worried about tendon damage) I decided to try it. The last of 5 birds is on what looks to be the last 2 weeks of treatment as it is improving well.

The plan I'm following is to spray it with Scarlex for 4 days up to 4 times a day, 4th day give her 1/2 cc of penicillin, 5th day spray and pull out as much as I can with tweezers, 7th day another 1/2 cc of penicillin, then spray a few more days and see if anything else comes out. That's what was suggested on a chicken health page I follow. He said the spray works it out and softens the area so it's not hard to get out.

What is Tricide Neo and were do you get it?

I can't remember who was going to name their frizzle Fo Shizzle, but that's still my favorite :D

Welcome, Rockmamma28! So long as your birds have some insulated shelter with ventilation (and access to food and unfrozen water) they should be fine :) Just keep an eye on them. You can tell who is having problems by the way they act. I like to keep some of those water soluble Sav-A-Chick vitamins on hand in case someone gets the sniffles or is acting sick. It's always been a good safeguard for me.

Ace, love the juveniles!

Tricide Neo is a powder that is usually used for scale infection on Koi fish. I saw it recommended. Basically it is a powder you must dissolve in distilled water as the minerals in tap water ....neutralize (for lack of a better word at the moment) the effectiveness. The anibiotic properties are said to ....

The antibiotic potentiator in Tricide-Neo has a rather interesting mode of activity that facilitates its spectrum of activity. Tricide-Neo creates holes (Figure 2) in the bacterial cell wall which in-turn allows antibiotics to flood the organism, destroys the effectiveness of the bacteria’s efflux pump and facilitates osmotic collapse of the bacterium. Because the potentiator causes direct physical damage to the bacteria, one is able to use less antibiotic than would normally be necessary and exposed bacteria are less likely to develop resistance to the chosen antibiotic. This later fact is particularly important in facilities where use of antibiotics without Tricide-Neo can quickly result in development of populations of bacteria that are resistant to many readily available antibiotics. I am sure that as a Koi enthusiast you are always searching for effective methods to reduce or prevent the evolution of antibiotic resistant bacteria in your fish and ponds.

I found that it was very effective to make 16 oz at a time and keep it in a covered container and then pour just enough in a yogurt container to cover the bottom of the foot adequately, After scrubbing the feet and peeling off any scab I soaked the affected foot for 5 minutes. After about 3 weeks there is no more scab to peel off easily so then I just clean and soak till the scabs are gone.

I love seeing everyone's fall fowls! So, I thought I'd share my most recent hatch from Lisa's Olive Eggers, and my first home-made (

) Speckled Sussex. Today is their two-month hatchday.

I think I have three pullets (Whitey, Blackey, and Ms. Frizzle) and two cockerels (Browney and Greyey). What do you guys think? Please tell me the frizzle looks pullety.

I love the frizzle and the SS. Nice looking flock.

If they are feathered out and have a place out of the wind I don't think you have anything to worry about. Frozen water is the biggest thing I think.
