Utah!

Hey! My chick with the bent neck is coming along. It's holding it's head up, and straighter. I haven't done anything yet..will just watch. Maybe it was just extra bent from being in there so long. I've had them come bent like this before, and not be able to straighten their necks, but this little one is doing it!
I need Wendy to think of a good name for this one..she's good at naming. :)

Chicken Chatter! I went on there before I came on here :) Just lurked mostly but this site was bigger so I hung my hat over here lol :)

Wow that hen is beautiful! Seems like most I have seen pics of do have more blue/gray on them. I really like the way she looks. Too bad about your baby with the crooked neck. Hope it straightens out. If you have time to put up baby pics would love to see your newbies :)

Went out to get my Bountiful Basket this morning......do any of you guys do those? I kind of quit they were getting smallish and weirdish contents....but wow this morning it was awesome! Lots and lots and good stuff. Will be cooking this weekend....Got 30 ish pounds of tomatoes for $8.50 so I will be making Spagh Sauce and Salsa. Has anybody tried giving chickens tomatoes? Maybe my girls can have all the cut ends.

my girls will kill for tomatoes. they like any kind of them but cherry tomatoes are a lot more fun to feed to them. just do not give them tomato leafs. in the summer my girls get a lot of them because i go crazy planting them, last year i did 20 plants and they were 6 feet tall

Birdman/Cynthia ---www.bountifulbaskets.org. Check it out....you go on the website and pay for a fruit and vegetable"basket" if you can find a location near you---they are all over Utah we have several sites here in Logan....usually on a Saturday morning, you go to the location chosen with a laundry basket and pickup your food. It is a co-op everybody pays $15 and the truck brings a ton of fruits and vegetables and the volunteers divide it up between all the people that bought one. You get lots more this way for less. For example, I went to a local elementary school this morning and picked up: 2 giant heads of romaine ( probably each head is about like 3 at the store, they would not fit in a produce bag at all). 9 bananas, 11 oranges, 6 pears. 3 crowns of broccoli, 1 pineapple, 5 ears of corn, 1 large eggplant, 2 8 oz pkgs brown mushrooms (whole), 2 really large lemons, 6 apples, a big bunch asparagus, a big bag of celery. Each week there are certain things you can "add-on". This week I bought the extra box tomatoes for 8.50. You can look around the site and see what I am talking about. Most weeks you get bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, basic stuff in the basket, but sometimes weird things that you just don't use as much. I like the weird stuff sometimes it makes me try things I would not have gotten. Persimmons, plums, pummelos, parsnips, chayote squash are some like that. No weirdish stuff today really. But the basket seemed bigger. During the winter they seemed smaller. I like the 9-grain bread, you get 5 loaves for $12, but it is really really good. Better than any store bread I have found. The bananas though I never really like, they stay greenish and taste green to me. Those are the only thing that aren't that good though, everything else seems like way better quality and much bigger than the stores. You have to go on the site on Mondays or early Tuesday to see what is coming ....then the deadline is Tuesday to order. Then you cannot see it again until the next Monday. So Monday, look on there and you can see :)
*Edit---the first time you do it I think they charge you a $3 extra sign up fee, but only once. I do it every week from now through August when my garden comes on...then usually stop until Jan or Feb because the baskets are not as big and we have so much holiday food around.

Do tomato leaves make them sick? We usually plant 2 dozenplants in the yard for canning....should I fence them off?
