Oh I am glad you wrote this....was thinking of planting those big sunflowers at the end of the run. Will make sure they are much harder to reach if I do, and be careful with those

Well we set another batch of eggs today. They are bantam wyandottes that a friend of the wife's brought over and asked if we would hatch them out for him. If I keep hatching these things out. I might have too break down and buy an incubator.

Okay, i hate to make my self sound like a real newbie.. (even though i am) but I hear people talking about broody or broodiness... what exactly does that mean?

That is a hen, that is just sitting in a nest box, not wanting to move. She thinks she is ready to hatch some eggs..which she is! She will sit for the full three weeks until some eggs hatch...that is, if she has some fertile eggs under her. She will go sit on the other chickens eggs until they are taken away, or she will lay an egg if she has been mated..and wait until she has enough, then hatch those..at any rate, broody hen, sits!

By the way..welcome Jesus..now that feels a bit different to post. :))

its when a hen tries to hatch eggs, if they are fertile they will become chicks and if they are not fertile nothing will happen. hens will go broody even if they do not have fertile eggs to hatch out edit: cynthia beat me to it lol

Ok, here are my BLRW's. Finally most are fluffed out. I asked my husband to help me bring them into the other room for pictures, he comes into the room they are in, and asks, where are the little ones? I said, these are the ones. He asks..the ones that hatched today?? Yep, they are all fluffed out now. He couldn't believe the difference. He's seen it before...so? Cutie man... anyway, tried to get some of the back of the bodies. There are a few with more red.
