Okay, i hate to make my self sound like a real newbie.. (even though i am) but I hear people talking about broody or broodiness... what exactly does that mean?

Here is a decription of broody.....
I have a little one who sits....and sits....gets ALL MAD when you reach under her to take the eggs away. My other chickens lay an egg, get out of the nest. This one RUNS over, jumps on it and claims it as her own. Try and touch it? MAD. She shrieks at you. All of her feathers ruffle straight out. Sits for days and days and weeks. If she sees two or three eggs because I have not gone out to collect....she sits on the whole pile. The more she has under her the more &*^%$ she gets when you try to get them. It is very very funny actually, if she only knew, we have no rooster, all that sitting on eggs is completely wasting her time..... You should also know, when they go full -on broody, they stop laying eggs. Because they are in hatch mode, not lay mode.....slowly she snaps out of it, starts getting up more and more, then after about a week, she starts to lay again.

Now, anyone want some Blue Laced Red Wyondotts? Free! Yep, I had fun hatching them. Thought I might keep one, but I am waiting to see how my pure Ameraucanas turn out. Plus, I have the pure Araucanas coming, I really want them to hatch..I want one of those for sure!

Lisa, I think I told you that the Australorp would be 4.00..I have them for 3.00 on ksl. So that is all you will pay. I have a man on the Idaho border...Tremonton?..that wants them all. I will have 8 for him, because someone else wants one too.
That will be Mon. I will see more feathering for sure by Mon.

Your hatch looks like it went well! Did they all hatch? Cute little guys there I am holding out for the Ameraucanas...Please oh please let me just get one blue egg in this life. Please. AND, good news here. I had phone calls today for eggs. WE have been selling eggs to my neighbors, and goodness we cannot keep up. Today I got a call for two dozen, I have only 1 egg in my fridge So .....wait for it......I think I should get more chickens this summer.

Did not see that coming now did ya?..... What is it about chickens that makes me so weak and foolish....

Good Sakes! The DH is on board with new chicken facilities, coming soon......so I do not feel so guilty about having so many now, and crowding them into the coop/run. I should have bet money that I could not stick to 12. Maybe just 14.........or 16....

You know what? I mentioned that to him, but he will come on Mon. I hope. You never know about ksl. He sounded very interested, and said he wanted them all. He did ask again, when is that other gal coming? I told him the eggs were hatching the 16th, so probably that weekend. He just said oh, like he didn't want to wait. Plus, they are still up on ksl.

Yes, all 8 hatched that went into lock down. Started with 12, 8 in lock down, not too bad.

You're so cute, I can see your DH getting on board for you when it comes to your chickens, just like mine. He was so funny this morning. He had the flashlight checking to see if I had any hatch through the night, because he knew I was a little worried about it.

Good thing our boys put up with us huh!! Scott is great. You both are! I like that you used the word "cute" ...instead of "neurotic"...haha....I think my DH must have that word dancing around in his head somewhere e So long as he has his hammer (and level ) out he can call me neurotic if he wants I do not think he would dare tho lol. I might show him some homemade incubator pictures this weekend to see what he thinks......

So I am not getting anything done with all these babies hatching. I might need to get off here for a day or two sabbatical and get my act together. No more babies til at least Wed/Thurs so I am going into occasional lurk mode until then. For the most part. My family needs a home cooked meal and I have to deal with all these tomatoes. So off I go Cynthia, I will see you soon to pick up the kids!

I LOOOOOVE bountiful baskets. I've posted pictures of my hauls from them on my regular blog many times. I don't bother ordering in the summer when I have my own produce, but it's nice in the winter. Their tortillas are the bomb! I remember when there was only 2 Utah locations. Crazy! I will say that I ordered a couple gingerbread houses from them this time, and was disappointed in them- very homemade feeling, so not terribly even. If I'd wanted the amateur look, I would've baked it myself!

Lisa, I have someone who owes me some hatching eggs, and they have polish, so I was thinking I'd order those. But, I would love to hatch some for you out in my brinsea if you want. I could do those for a school hatch. The only kind I'm dying to hatch now are FBCMs. And, dh is starting to figure out how to put together my wine cooler incubator, so that will be up and running soon.

Cynthia, I can't believe you're going to keep any of your BLRW! You should keep some! Or you could sell them on KSL, though I noticed Rebecca is selling some of hers. What breed of chicken is your wry necked one? I've been worried about it today.

JesusFreak! For scrap lumber, I have seen free pallets here and there. I bet you could rig something up with those. We used free scrap pallets to make a fairly decent composter.

I'm beat too, but one more post.
My wry neck wasn't that at all. It was one of the BLRW's. It's neck sure looked like it was. It was stuck in the same position for a long time..bent down and to the side. It had been pipped the same way for over 24 hrs, then I helped it out. Glad I did. It is fine now. No problem, walking around and acting fine. I'm so glad.
I don't see the red in them that she is advertising her roo and hen to be. I haven't seen them or pictures of them. These babies look like they will be mostly the blue, with some red with some lacing on them.
I have so many to chose from, that I am thinking I really want that little EE to be a pullet..the cutest thing ever! Then I would love to get a splash out of the pure Ameraucanas. Then, I should be done, after..lol..I get an Araucana. I think Lisa wants one of those too. Hope I can get those to hatch.
Time for bed. I was waiting up for my son to get back from a dance tonight. We finished talking, and now..bedtime.
