Is that tail less SLW because of another chicken?? I can't believe the luck you have with your chickens picking at each other. Yep, you are wise to get that larger area for your girls. I got my brown leghorn that was pretty bad, felt sorry for her when I saw her, took her home, my chickens liked her. Well, she now has all of her feathers back, and, she lays almost every single day..
loving your blues!

Shinx..that Hot2Pot gal is a great person to get eggs from...as you well know by now. She is so nice, and honest. Beautiful birds too!!

Shinx..I am still thinking that my lavender is a girl..sure is small if it's a roo. Sweet face to her though, not much fluff any more, but sweet face..in the eyes. :)

Lisa, if you want me to hold an Araucana for you I can. It looks like it will be close to April before Scott and I get up there. We don't mind waiting to go when it means we can have our son here watching all of the critters..spring break is coming up then.
The bluest eggs I've ever seen are coming from the latest BBS's ones I got..I posted pictures of them. Just beautiful. They will hatch this month, so, we can wait and see on those too, see if we get a few splash, you need some splash in there now! You have your beautiful blue girls. :) Lavender girl. Black girls. J/K, what ever you want, another blue? Black? Which ever comes out of the most green egg...ahem, I mean most blue egg..lol..
I'll be posting pictures as they hatch. Also, look up the Wheatons. Ray_n_Deb, here on BYC is where I got my Araucanas, getting more, plus the Wheaten Ameraucana. Her Wheatens are beautiufl!
I know, you need that wheaten color..and a splash color. Now hurry and get rid of those roos, and mean birds..and mean babies.

Phoenix---they are doing great! Seem to fit right in. Very quiet---just eating grass and bugs all day. Will see how the coop goes tonight lol :)
It was great to meet your family! And thanks for the tour. My DH is in love with that little white goat :)

Well we're going to have kidds for the next few months if you decide you want one. Glad there getting along well.

jwoo - You will love the BR's if you happen to get one. I have a pullet and she is very mellow and sweet. Not exactly a snuggly girl because of the home she came from, but she doesn't startle easily. I stuck my hand in the laying box one day to get eggs and didn't realize she was in there. She didn't spook at all, just kind of stared at me politely and let me pet her.

That's what I heard! My wife loves the color of them as well so that's a bonus.

Wasn't today just lovely?

My husband went on a loooong bicycle ride with some of our friends. I still have that horrible cough going around, so I stayed home and sulked.

I did sit out in the chicken coop for a good hour and watched the chicks scratch around. I had to forcibly remove them from the henhouse again. It made my heart happy to see chickens out there again, and it was fun to see little bitty chicks walking around. I saw one eat an earwig, which I thought was awesome.

We went to dinner at my grandma's and weren't home when it got dark. I went to make sure they were smart enough to go inside the henhouse. The big two were, but all 7 of the little ones were in a ball in the cold.

I picked them up and put them in. One little cockerel tried to fight me and go back outside. Silly boy! Once they were all in, he stayed put. I didn't take and chances and I covered the door so they couldn't go back out.

I'm wondering when they'll learn how to go outside and back in without me making them do it. My other batch of chickens figured it out just fine, and the older two seem to have figured out the "going inside at night" part.

Shinx, some of mine do the going in and out thing pretty quick, but some don't. I have the three youngest in with the older ones now, and they huddle until I get them in..they are afraid of the bigger ones still, but that goes by pretty quick where they get used to each other.

Got my replacement of chicks today. Figured, since I was woke up at 3 a.m. on Sunday night telling me they had been shipped. None dead, and they are acting pretty good. Not standing there shivering. Imagine that..weather is much nicer. Learned a lesson that you would think would only take common sense, warmer weather, but I really thought that they would have a couple of warmers in there like Dick did with the chicks he sent to me. They didn't last time, or this time..and I had asked for it. They were huddled..and are just now calming down. All little girls, except, the surprise chick..not sure. That looks to be a cochin, to funny, I just hatched some, but what a big fluffy face! And, it runs around like a little maniac. I mean, non stop. I've never seen anything like it. I think it's trying to get used to solid, non moving ground. Sure is pretty. Two black dots..one on the head, one on the body, thinking a splash cochin..just wondering about those puffy cheeks? Who knows?
Will be watching for chicks that need to get to the water with electrolytes. So far so good. Most are drinking and eating. Yaay..much better than last time. Still have the night to go through.
