Wow, I missed a lot in the past day and a half!

Also, a man called me and has eggs for sale in Lake Shore. PM me if you want his # :D

Chico, Thanks for the offer but I think that I want to go with pure breeds instead of barnyard mixes. Do you know what breeds the guy in Lake Shore has?

Quote: Sphinx, Thanks for the info! I called River Rock Farms and talked to the owner for about a half an hour. She was very informative and it seems like they have quite a variety there. I think that I will probably go with a dozen eggs from there.

I was able to get some silkie eggs but won't get them until Tuesday. I have been trying to read as much as I can on how to help my little broody hen. She isn't laying on anything right now and only gets up once or twice a day to eat and drink. Then goes right back in and lays down. I'm so worried how this is all going to work out that I bought a incubator just in case.(early Mother's Day gift!) Would love any help you could give to me as this is a new experience. I'm very excited!
auntie hattie, I am planning on setting my eggs this Friday. That would have them hatching Easter weekend. I have done quite a bit of reading, but I should warn you that this is my first time hatching eggs as well, so I don't know how much help I will be as a resource. However, I would love to hatch them along with you.

8 BLRW eggs in lockdown as of yesterday! They all looked good, so hopefully they will all hatch Wednesday. We brought down another dozen to set from Duchesne yesterday, so between the cream leg bars and the BLRW's, I think there are a total of 41 eggs currently in there with another 24 on the way. Not counting the ones I'll bring down from Duchesne late this week! Good grief, this new Sportsman has made me just out of control!

Cynthia I'll buy the Mystery Chick! It's a Faverolle! So cute and puffy! Meyer's weren't nearly as puffy :)

It's gone! Sorry! I thought Faverolle, but, I'm not sure, the coloring wasn't right. I think it's a cochin. Will be white. I've hatched the Faverolle's before, they weren't that color at hatching. ?

I'd love to see what you have for sale after today, I want two more chicks. We have an Easter Egger, Welsummer, Buff Orpington and Speckled Sussex. So I'm looking for two more that are different than those, although Easter Eggers can all look different from each other. I just want to be able to look out and tell them apart by sight.

I have left..one Araucana, rumpless but no tufts..cute little bunt butt..then I have rose comb brown leghorns..will lay often, but you know that..and so will the two New Hampshires I have left. I also have some sussex, but you have those, and I have Silver Laced Wyondottes.
I have an older..last months hatch EE, is looking pretty. If you want a blue or a black, or splash Pure Ameraucana..I have those hatching soon.
In this picture, the pure Auracana is the one looking into my hand, standing beside my hand.

Found a home for my GSL and SLW. Perfect place----lots of room, great family, AND a big rooster to put them in their place lol!. Very happy :)

Cynthia and Sphinx--
I put my lavs out today in the big coop--so far no trouble. They have a little chickie nook with a small doorway to hide from the big girls. It is sooo dang funny how that boy one acts----he runs right out into the middle of my big girls and has a staring contest...I had to keep putting him back in the dang cubby. I am surprised the big girls did not go after him. He has no sense :) Got the last 4 from Cynthia out in the garage now. Chicken dust and smell is out of the house. Not sure how I am going to add those to the mix, but will wait another week or two :)

Aww

So some good news, and some sad news. I moved my brooder box today from my boyfriend's place over to mine so that I can help take care of the baby chicks, since he's so busy right now. Well, somehow the light in the box got unplugged and the babies must have been in the dark for a little while. I don't think it was more than half a day, but when I found them, my little Speckled Sussex had given up the ghost. I'm not sure if she got too cold or just depressed from the dark or what, but it was a sad find. Rest in peace, my little Batman.

The goods news.......I got the remaining babies home to my garage okay, and I went to get a third chick to go in with them. Ended up picking out a little BSL, since their age looked closest to the babies I already had. She's cute, though a little bald on some spots. I don't know if it's her genetics or if she was getting picked on, but she seems pretty healthy other than that. I made sure they all ate and had some light sugar water before I left them alone, particularly my Welsummer, who was doing pretty poorly when I showed up today. I think they'll be okay now. And now I can see my babies every day!
