Utah!

That rooster looks like some kind of BLRW mix--either that, or the ugliest BLRW I've ever seen! He doesn't have the tail feathers or the back that roosters tend to have, but he does have a larger comb and wattles. I got him at a local feed store--supposedly sexed as a pullet, but clearly someone missed the mark there. I particularly loved the moment when he tried to mount one of the hens. Not.

Sphinx-- the cream legbars are from 3 different sources--Madamwlf, Jordan Farms, and I have some coming probably tomorrow from Boykin. The ones from Madamwlf took some damage in shipping--they were all fertile, but all but two developed blood rings, so I ordered another set and she was kind enough to oblige. I should have those in about a week or so.

I forgot to tell on myself yesterday! I did something, yep, I did something. lol.. I did a switch on my broody. I had only 4 of those cute little EE eggs get to lock down..which is today..so, I went and switched her three BBS eggs for the EE eggs. I don't think she even noticed that she had an extra egg. She just scooted them where she wanted them, then nestled down on them Fri. is hatch day. Hoping they do well, a couple have some pretty big air sacs up the side. I will let the day go and see how many she has hatched, then, if there are any at the end of the afternoon, I will bring them in and check them. If the babies are ok, will sneak them back out to her once they hatch.
I've been worried about her, she has been way too good at staying on that nest! Maybe she gets up when I'm not around now, but she used to get up when I was in the coop, get a quick drink, eat a bit, then back to the nest..but not lately. This will give her a week less to wait on babies.

Sneaky sneaky!
Hope she can do it! Go Baily! :fl

Haha Cynthia, I think she's probably just happy to have some babies. Hope it goes well!

I checked on my three babies today, and they're all doing just fine! That little BSL is kind of an oddball, though. I can't put my finger on it, but something about her seems off physically, other than the baldness. She almost looks.........lumpy. I'll try to get a picture of her after work.

I am going to buried in chickens before long. After picking up layers and chatting with Lisa today. The wife decided that want a chicken for a certain color is OK. So besides the 2 girls we got from Lisa we had to pick up a couple of Marans. Because the boss wanted dark brown eggs. So we now have 6 slw , 4 phoenix , 3 marans and will be picking up 5 old english bantams. I thought only rabbits multiplied this fast.

Thaty stupid rooster came from the feed store last year, supposedly sexed as a pullet. Someone missed the boat there bigtime. He looks like a BLRW mix--either that, or the ugliest BLRW I've ever seen. Pathetic. LArger comb, but not nearly as large as my pure BLRW roos--same with the wattles. And he lacks the more elaborate tail feathers and saddle--if you look closely at him, you can see there are some longer feathers than the hens, but not by a whole lot.

Had four early pips when I got up this afternoon. They aren't due until tomorrow, but it looks like they decided not to wait. Should have some little cuties in there by the time I get home in the morning. I'm watching the humidity like a hawk this time!

:lau Phoenix! You did it!! You went right back into town didn't ya lol! Where did you find Marans at? This is too funny, it was a thought, then a reality hours later. Good for her, take the bull by the horns lol :) Love it. So are you getting a diff breed rooster and breeding any? It would be nice to have someone so close with chicks :)

Its your fault you said it was ok . We found them at IfA in hyde park . And from what they said we have that 80% chance of 2 pullets and one rooster. So if there right we will have fertile eggs this time next year.
