Utah!

Due to health reasons, I need to get rid of my 4 girls. 2 are red sex links and 2 are barred rocks. They are nearly 7 mos old and give me 4 eggs regularly. If interested, pm me for more details.

I'm in Sandy, this is where I get everything-

feed and bedding - Saddle Up, they are cheaper than IFA and have frequent buyer cards, but they are in Riverton. AA Callister's also has a frequent buyer program and are cheaper than IFA, but I got a really bad infestation (bugs) in horse feed from the Riverton, one so I refuse to do anymore business with them.

meds - online, they are cheaper and IFA carries nothing - let me know if you want specific sites.

de - I followed PacsMan suggestion and got it from Steve Reagan, they are downtown and have both 5 and 50 pounds of food grade de and are cheaper than the only other local place I know of, freshwaterorganics.com (they are based in Sandy)

I hardly get anything from IFA based on their lack of knowledge, high prices and horrible selection. I've also had bad experiences with sales staff telling me that they are "experts" when in fact they have their basic information all wrong. So I've let my feet do the talking and taken my money elsewhere.

I definitely side with hen-thusiast about IFA. Their lack of knowledge is unbelievable. Lots of times they haven't had what I wanted. Never heard of DE. Prices were not that great. And on and on and on.

Thanks sooo much for answering. I didn't want to say anything but I totally agree with you about IFA-that's why I wanted to know about other places. Thanks again!

WOW, I'm amazed at how many people are raising chickens here in Utah. I go to the shows, the fairs and from what I’ve seen there you wouldn’t think that there were more that a few handfuls of people raising chickens here.
Why are all of you not getting evolved in showing your birds????

Anyway I’m glad I stumbled across this post.

Maybe if we had kids we'd be interested in showing 4-H or FFA, but we got our chickens for eggs and pets. I guess our ladies just like chilling in the back yard eating bugs and taking dust baths.

Anyway - glad you found us!

Hey Muddy...
I'm in Sandy, so I get most of my stuff from IFA on 123rd and 9th. I get my DE (50# bag for $30 I think...) from Steve Reagen. But they're only open M-F 8-5pm

hahaha Pacsman! Now you tell me- I went today and they were-yes-closed! I'll go next week-it will give me something to do now that the kiddies are starting school.

Josh from Bountiful- I've seen your ads on ksl for bantam cochins and have been very, very temped to get one or two. The last speckley ones were so pretty but DD wants chicks to raise if we get any more (I on the other hand would like to skip the hassle) Anyway, maybe someday.

Hey, people in Bountiful! I need help.

We've got one neighbor who has complained about our chickens, although for some reason, they got the wrong house and the code notice went to another of my neighbors who likes my chickens. We've been operating under the belief that chickens were legal in Bountiful, and now the city is saying they aren't. I know of several homes in my vicinity who have them, and one home in particular lets them free-range all over, and they can often be seen right out by the street.

The city code is ambiguous at best...chickens are not classified as "household pets." And it says household pets are ordinarily allowed inside your home. Well, duh. My chickens are not allowed in my home. They have their own! So I wouldn't call them "household pets" in that sense. Yet in another area, it clearly states that owners of domesticated fowl cannot let them roam around on others' property. It makes it sound as if you have them, you just can't let them roam.

Let me know if you want to try some younger chicks. I'll have some available soon.
