Utah!

Hi -- I am new to the site and new to the whole chicken thing. I live in Sugarhouse.

I missed the last Tour De Coop due to a recording session, but I wish I could have made it... I was wanting to make the coop on my property "serviceable" at the time, so I probably would have gotten some ideas and gotten it done faster.

Oh well, I do have a few girls now and the coop is starting to be in decent enough condition.

Hi Stands...!!! I'm north of Sugarhouse. Good to hear from chicken people so close by!

So, any of you Utahn's on a farm? I may need to re-home a fantastic layer who has a very loud squawking problem. So far, I've not made any decisions, and I've not had any complaints from neighbors. However, if it keeps going on, I may have to look in earnest for a new home.

Hi Utahns!

I am also new to chickens and in Sugarhouse. I bought 4 chickens that were 1 1/2. Now, after having them for about a month, I starting to think I might need a few younger ones/ or better layers. We now get about 8 eggs a week but would like a dozen.

Does anyone know any local breeders/ or a place to get pullets from?

Thanks! It's great to see so many Utahns with small flocks! Very exciting.

Where in Sugarhouse? I'm in the 15th & 15th area.

To answer your question about where to get pullets, check out ksl.com classifieds. There's a ton of ads on there under poultry & gamebirds.

Also, someone I bought a Polish Crested hen off ksl mentioned that she might be selling some pullets in the next couple of weeks. She was in the 33rd and 33rd area sort of near Smith's. If you PM me, I can give you her number.

Hey stands with a fiddle! I'm just up the street a few blocks on 15th east!! cool.

I too have a noisy pullet. For a while she was trying to crow in the mornings and now she just talks and complains ALOT but but she started to lay for me so I forgive her! lol

I've seen ads on ksl.com for poultry at a place called sunnybrookefarm in Sandy. I've heard she knows her stuff and they did have a good selection a few weeks ago. You might try her.

Hi Muddypuddles and Little crooked beak, I unfortunately had a bad experience from sunnybrookefarm. I got 5 chicks from her and they all had lice and one of them is sneezing. I fortunately got the lice/mite problem under control, but I have had to take the poor little things to the vet and they are on antibiotics (not cheap) for the respiratory problems. When I called the lady that owns sunny brooke farms, she said that "all chickens have lice" and furthermore she didn't even know what DE was or where I could get it. I would NOT buy any chicks from her. She seems like a very nice person and probably is, but she is selling sick birds.
I just wanted to warn you.

Incidentally, I've been PM'ing and emailing a few of you that are WAYYYY close to me.

I propose that this Saturday we get together for lunch at Emigration Market Patio (13th South & 17th East). I get done teaching at 1PM, so it will be a late-ish lunch. I can be there in a couple of minutes, so like 1:05 for me... Any takers?

RSVP via this board. We can check out each others' coops after lunch.

Daiysiechicks, Thanks for the heads up!! That's horrible that she sold you sick birds!!! I hope they recover soon and I will be more careful in recommending people.
