Utah!

Exciting about the Cream Legbars Hatch. I have some 3 month old CLB's and some 3 weeks old CLB's. I hatched a grab bag of Marans last November and ended up with a Black Copper pullet, Wheaton Pullet, Splash Pullet, and Blacktailed Buff Pullet. I got the first egg from the group yesterday after noon. A lovely dark egg from the Blacktailed Buff. She isn't even five months old yet, but I have waited as much as 7 months on a Maran and know what you mean about not wanting to wait for the eggs. :)

Welcome back to Utah GaryDean from Texas!

So Marans are unpredictable it sounds like.....I have an EE that is 1/2 Marans and 1/2 Ameraucana, born around 11/15, so 19 weeks, and is squatting which surprised me......but you got one at this age! So maybe that means soon for me too :p I hope so!

Oh, those are so cute!!!!!

Corvidae, I'm dying to hear how this hatch goes.

I'm definitely up for trading for the peppers. You'll have to give me advice on getting them to sprout, I have a tough time getting peppers to sprout. I have mine sitting on a reptile rock, which does seem to help.

The EE/BCM chicks I hatched started laying around 5 months old.

I am way jealous! I need to get another dark egg layer like my son's Wellsummers or a Marans. I have 6 CLB's from Greenfire and one I hatched a few days ago from a breeder on here. Sadly, that little chick is looking like failure to thrive and we are down to giving vitamins and sugar water to try to perk him up (its a boy). Not sure he is going to make it.

My hatch isn't going well. I have just about had it with shipped eggs, seriously. I never have these problems with my own eggs. Four chicks hatched out last night--one cream legbar girl and three BLRW's. Another cream legbar had zipped halfway and gotten stuck. Had a bad feeling about that one so, since there aren't any other pips, I went in and helped it out of the shell. Doesn't look good. Pretty sure the is intestine extrudung out the rectum.
So out of 12 total eggs, four hatched, one was helped, and the others are just sitting there looking like not a blasted thing is going to happen with them. I'm really irritated because these are all shipped eggs and were rather pricey. That's not even a 20% hatch rate, and these are only the eggs that made it to lockdown. Disappointing.

On the upside, my son's Breda's arrived from Greenfire today. I ordered 6 for him. They sent 14! One of them was literally on death's door, but with some intensive rewarming, perked up completely. Another couldn't walk and has a seriously twisted foot. That one is in the chick ICU also. I band-aid splinted his legs and he is getting vitamins as well. He's managing to get to the waterer and looks otherwise very healthy. I'm thinking there's no help for the foot, but he might manage it. The other 12 chicks were in picture perfect shape. Can't believe we got more than double what we ordered! My son was totally thrilled!

Now, if I could just get the flipping Cream legbar eggs to hatch properly...

Phoenix----way funny! Love those!

Donna---so sad about your hatching rates.....I had emailed the local River Rock Farms about two weeks ago about CLB egg availability and they said not yet...but soon. Maybe you could try theirs when they have some? They are way expensive, but probably a lot more dependable if not sent through the mail.

Sphinx, thanks for the info. Sounds like a definite possibility then I will be getting eggs soon from my black EE, at least the one who is showing the signs.... I was so shocked today to see her jumping in and out of nests and checking them out. She seems pretty close. That first egg is the best thing ever. :celebrate

i actually contacted River Rock about a month ago and talked to her about her CLB's. She has only the one rooster and one hen now (her other hen died or got killed by a critter or something) and, like you say, they hadn't started laying yet. I really would like her eggs, though, since she imported her own--not related to the Greenfire lines.

I'm starting to think I might just order more cream legbar chicks from Greenfire and skip this whole shipped egg thing all together in the future. I hate paying so much for eggs only to have them not hatch. First, though, I am hatching another set of my own BLRW's to make sure it is a shipping issue and not something up with my incubator.

My son just texted me that our little ICU cream legbar with failure to thrive just died.

He's pretty upset about it. Unfortunately, I'm at work all night, so I can't do much about it.
