Utah!

I had someone lay a mystery blue egg today. The blue Americana that lays a blue egg every day in the same nest had already laid her egg. As I was feeding I noticed another blue egg in a totally different nest and it was a totally different shape. Could the lavender Americana be laying? I also have an easter egger pullet that could be the culpret. She was hatched in feb. None of them have gotten bright red skin. I noticed my turkin pullet has her skin turning fron yellow to bright red she was hatched mid feb as well but her eggs would be tan

Sundance, I'd suspect the Amer first, then possibly the EE. That's exciting!

Cynthia, checked on the little one just now and she seems to have her eyes open more. I did give them some really diluted vitamins with their water, plus I adjusted where the light was sitting so that it's somewhat cooler in there. I'm wondering if it had something to do with that. I'll check her again tonight and in the morning. The other two chicks that are with her are fine.

Does anyone know where I can get an Orpington that is any other color than "buff" around here? My mom has a buff Orpington that we both love because she is so friendly and a total lap chicken. I would like to get her another one but I would like it to be a different color like blue, black, white, or whatever. Does anyone raise anything like that in Utah?

Don't know about Utah, but Birdguy here in IF has some orpingtons, I think they are a mix with cochin, and if I remember right, they were different colors, not buff... you should PM him... I know he would be MORE than happy to find some a new home!!

Oh good Red, I hope you see her better by tomorrow. Will be watching for update.

so is anyone else that has the lavender americana from cynthia starting to lay? She just isn't big enough to me. She is much smaller that the blue Americana

Our Lavender Ameraucanas hatched in February, like the first week. Mine are starting to pink up around the face, but they still seem tiny to me, and nowhere near ready to lay. Of course, I seem to encourage an extended youth in my chickens- I have two pullets hatched the first week of January and neither of them are laying yet- they're GLW and RIR. And, speaking of extended youth, I gave my next door neighbor one of my BLRW cockerels from my 2/6 hatch, and he still hasn't crowed yet. Crazy, eh?

Red, any sign of your truck?

I think I'm going to try to get my five superfluous BLRW that hatched the first week of May to go in a group. I figure if I offer a really great deal, and have them be a package thing, the new people can take the 2 or so cockerels in the group. I'm going to try to get them rehomed, as well as the lavender ameraucana cockerel hatched in April to new homes before we go camping next weekend.

My poor 7 year old broke her arm last night. I guess it was bound to happen- climbing fences in a dress and crocs. I'm just relieved it wasn't my extra child- I'm babysitting a friend's son for the week, and I just *knew* someone was going to break an arm. I'm glad it was one of my own kids' arms. I would've felt bad returning a damaged child.

Wait, Sundance, how old is your Ameraucana?

Update on the chickie - she's still doing alright.

Yaay for tiny Icie!

Sun, her chick is one of my lavenders. Wendy now has two of them. Wendy, I forgot to mention that I loved that picture of her hanging with one of your others. She and the Speckled S. were so close. My Speckeled Sussex has finally settled down, hangs with the other three pullets her age, and now comes around me, just talkin away. A new thing. Talks to me the whole time I'm in the coop area with her.
Those laveneders are so small, I doubt that they will be laying sooner than later, but..on the other hand, those leghorns are small, and they lay early. Have to have all the signs first..especially that red comb.

Ann, how is the blue doing? Sounded like she just fit right in pretty quick.

Wendy, that's awful...poor baby. What part of the arm broke? How old was this one? Was she here when you came? I remember your older daughter..your twin. I know there was another cute little one..with the glasses? Was it her? That is something I never went through, with all of my kids! I think I may have had it made up in having my son with Spina Bifida. Lots of bone work done there on his little legs. He did get a fracture on one leg, had it casted, then it fractured again not long after the cast was off, but it was expected for him to break bones easy in the legs. That was the only time though! All of those other kids..how did I luck out?
Got our new vynal fence up!!
