Hey utahns. I'm back again with another random post.

For those weirdos like me who will take their birds to the vet, I'd like to rave about Parrish Creek clinic in Centerville. I am going through a major ordeal to correct my goose who hatched out crippled. After Laurel Harris at wasatch exotic refused to treat my girl, instead insisting that euthanasia was the only thing I could do, I took my goose to Parrish. Dr. Echols was so very wonderful in helping and we have begun corrective treatment with good success so far. Dr. Folland is also my hero for his continued treatment on my goose. Both are certified avian specialists and Folland has 24 pet chickens himself.

Just wanted to spread the word about how great this clinic is.

IaianUtah, thanks for the recommendation. I wonder if they do exotic birds? I had a cockatiel that I would've liked to have been seen by a vet, but nobody local to me "did" birds. Centerville is close enough.


Lisa, once I rehome the 5 BLRW and the 2 foster birds, I'll have a total of 17 chickens- two roosters and the rest hens. They'll have free run of both chicken coops and runs. I plan to have a little door between the two spaces, but keep them together most of the time. If I decide I want to breed, I'll put a roo in each run, and then divide the girls, that way the eggs will be correct (i.e. marans in one pen, legbars in another, and then the rest of the group divided).

Hattie, if you want to stop for lunch in the Roy area, it's right off the freeway....

Sasha, that would be awesome if you could pick up my Polish with yours! Awesome I say! AND a reason to visit a chicken friend, hooray!!!
I will be back on the 8th (late) then on the 9th I need to go get my chicks (hopefully)! From Cindy after work......so then I will come to you the next night affter work or whenever it works for you after that ok? You are awesome thanks so much

lol sorry about the age thing, I did think Sasha was about your age.....and she was closer to my age! She looks crazy young, more like a sister to those daughters, not a MOM! And her voice is very young too. I still had her age wrong AFTER I met her lol!
So I think I have this straight----
1. Pickup chickens in Paul today for me and Daloorashens and Blujems
2. Take chickens to Blujems late tonight or tomorrow if it is too late on the drive back...
3. Eggs to Blujems on July 2
4. Pickup chicks from Blujems July 9
5. Meet Sasha to pickup chicks July 10 or after
6. July 14 or 15 take Daloorashens her chickens, and Chicks to Birdguy in I.F.
7. Marans chick 'Chuck" and Blue wheaten chick to blujems as soon as the gender is 100 percent sure....
Whew if I am forgetting somebody speak up here! If any other chickens need a ride back from Birdguys or anywhere else on my trip holler

LOL As for my age, I do often have people think Sierra (my 18 year old) and I are sisters, not mother/daughter. It's a nice compliment.

Sad day for me. This morning one of our silkies did his first attempt at a crow.

These chickens are our pets and we live in the city so we can't keep him. I am so worried about trying to rehome him and have him go somewhere bad.

Aww, nuts! I'm sorry you need to rehome a chickie. It is really nerve-racking to think about what kind of conditions your pets go to in their next home. We have been very lucky so far, I think, to have found humane homes for all the critters we've sold. If you do a KSL ad, just say "to a good home" and hopefully that will weed out any potential bad homes.

Ok, I'll admit, I'm a bit confused on all this shuttle business, but I think most of it is going on up north way.
But, is Sasha still stopping by this way for Red's most beautiful, and gorgeous Exchequer? Around the first part of the month, right?

Off to what I am guessing, my last Neuro. appt. Maybe he's going to tell me I can sky dive now.

Yes, i'm still planning on stopping at Cynthia's for Red's most beautiful and gorgeous Exchequer. Still kind of up in the air as to whether it will be the night of the 7th or mid-late morning of the 8th. Cynthia dear, what time are you in church? GOOD LUCK at your neuro appnt!!!

Absolutely! Folland has been the staff vet for Tracy Aviary for over 10 years and they treat all avian exotics.

dr harris is great in my opinion, you just got to remember they are used to treating parrots and such. not a lot of people take geese or chickens etc to the vet. i actually highly recommend all the vets you listed, having worked with rescue parrots for so long i have gotten to know the local vets and the ones you listed are the best in utah imo, even dr harris. dr echols is widely seen as one of the best avian vets in the united states, we aree very lucky to have him in utah now but this is all my opinion, you just gotta remember that most avian vets do not even treat poultry because their base customers are parrot owners and most parrot owners are highly put off of the idea of poultry in the vets office, most tend to be very paranoid about it all because the parrots can get sick from so many things and when a parrot can cost anywhere from $400 to 30k it makes most parrot owners very nervous. sorry you had a bad experience with dr harris, i just hope you can see it from another side of things, most people do not take poultry to the vet because most do not think its worth it.

Holy moly!!! I'm not sure I followed all of that!!

Ok Lisa, I would love to hold onto your polish from hattie, that is no problem at all, I have plenty of room in the brooder=) but if sasha is going to get them, that is great, too, whatever is easier for everybody!!

And Sphinx... did you say BLRW?? Are they pullets?? I may have to have 1 or 2 if they are pullets=)

But, Birdguy.. wasn't that gorgeous roo in that one pen a wyandotte (splash was it??) with the black wyandotte hen?? I know I'm going to have to have me some of those wyandottes eventually.... Now it's getting urgent to get that pen at my mom's finished, hehe...

I'm really hoping my older pullets start laying soon, I got 3 from Azriel at chickenstock, and the EE is looking quite red in the face, and she said her BSL and orps that are the same age have started laying, so I'm crossing my fingers!! The BSL is a Marans cross, so I'm really hoping for a semi-dark egg, and maybe even a blue one from the EE... it's been pretty hot, here the last week or so, so that may be delaying them, I only got one egg yesterday from my 6 hens that are laying, when I got 5 on Sunday and 6 on Saturday...

i hope i did not offend any of you with my post. just knowing these vets from my work with parrot rescue i see things from all sides and honestly those vets you listed iain utah are by far the best in the state. you should see some of the other vets i just hope everyone can see things from a different side of things. 80% of avian vets do not treat poultry

After work tonight, I am driving to Paul yes! Yay!!!!! I am getting 2 beautiful FBCM pullets for me, a FBCM pullet and cockerel for Blujems, a FBCM pullet for Daloorashens..... and she has three Olive egger EE pullets that are FBCM/Silver Ameraucana crosses that I am picking up for me (2) and Daloorashens (1) So freaking excited! Do you want anything from Paul? She has F2 olive eggers left that have a 25 percent chance of laying dark olive, or otherwise Dark brown......she said she has a blue one. She might have eggs I could get for you, you could call her I have her number, pm me if you need it. I could give stuff to Sasha to bring to you.......haha more shuttling

On your chicken route if you will bring my 2 polish to Sasha that would be awesome. Then they have a place with hers during my trip and I will get them from her when she gets back from Cynthia's and her reunion. There needs to be a smiley that does cartwheels!!!!!
