Utah!

Sundance, I've seen pictures of the blue legbar eggs, they don't look any more blue than what I've seen come from some EE's and Ameraucanas!

Ok, I have a couple of pictures of my blue girl that I found, to compare to the lavenders you guys have. Hope you can see the size from the pictures.
She started out small too, I remember thinking, man, she's going to be tiny! She got into a growing spree once she started to lay.

Getting pink

Look at how she beefed up!

Maybe the lavenders are going to do the same.

Utahchicken mom.....that would be the "egg squat~" They do that when they reach sexual maturity, they are actually squatting for the rooster to mount them.....haha, kinda cool though it makes them way easier to catch, they just hunker down and hold still. Usually they start that a week or two before the first egg comes, then their temperament can change abit, mine seem to mellow out quite a bit and become more friendly. Then the fluffing up and composing themselves after....pretty cute :)

Cynthia, that blue girl is nice! Looks lots like the lavs, huh! Mine really has been growing all of a sudden, still smaller, but fattening up quickly. She has been nest surfing, not too much longer! It is good to see one that fills out later....a late bloomer! So I won't worry about it too much, I have been wondering why she is so behind, my others that are younger have outgrown her by a mile. I need to get some pics of my girls up soon, the older ones are turning out so nice!

Ditto on the legbar eggs. I saw them at Donna's they looked like the Ameraucana eggs pretty much, mostly minty greenish blue, light in color. I look at some of these avatars with the deep turquoisey blue eggs and just hope someday I will get a nice deep blue one. With 9 girls out there threatening to lay blue, hopefully it will work :)

Well if you need any chickens give me a shout
OK!!! How many chickens are you allowed to have in Taylorsville?

We have had couple of membrane eggs too so not sure if that is someone's first attempt. If so, how long does that go on? We are feeding layer food and have oyster shell mixed in so I'm assuming that it isn't a calcium deficiency.

I have enjoyed and envied some of the pictures...nice, eclectic group of chickens here. Wish we could have more than six but that chicken math does that to you if you don't watch out!! Have a great day, chickenmom
We have had quite a few membrane eggs the last few months...We are also feeding oyster shell and layer food...They also get goats milk once or twice a week......Is it the heat? or is something else going on?

i have read its not good to mix oyster shell in with the feed and you should offer it separate so that is what i do, i use one of the 3lb hanging feeders and it works great, i also have another one for grit :)

We have them separate...they don't seem to be interested in the oyster shell...have picked a little but not much.....maybe this last one was from the new egg layer it was very small.
The others were from my older egg layers. I have had more this year than I ever have.

birdman, you beat me to the punch..I was just going to say. Not all chickens will be needing the oyster shell. That's why you often hear that people are giving it to them free choice. The chicken knows when it needs it. It can actually do some harm to them, can't remember what, sure it can be looked up here though. So, don't mix the oyster shell in the food. So there, I just said what Brad said.
