Utah!

Here is a picture of the eggs I won in the Father's Day Hatch A Long. Nice looking eggs. She sent extras, and two maran eggs..very nice dark ones.
Diana, if you want, I can say they will be for you if I can get them to hatch. I keep hearing how hard they are to hatch. I got a couple to hatch out of 6 when I got my last ones I won..and the person that sent them said that was good, because they are hard to hatch. She put those in as extras too. Someone on here has them, Dalloras? Anyway, I will be setting them tonight in the carton and letting them sit with the bator on for a couple of days without turning them. Hopefully they will set the air sacs..but, I want to candle tomorrow night to see if I see any bulls eye in them. I often do, and it's hard enough to see the baby in those dark eggs, but if I can see a bulls eye and know it's at least fertile, then I just keep them in the whole time.
Let me know Diana if you want them. I'll keep you updated on their progress as long as I can see into them. lol...

Easter Egger eggs! Should be fun. Those are nice dark Maran eggs!

birdman, you beat me to the punch..I was just going to say.  Not all chickens will be needing the oyster shell.  That's why you often hear that people are giving it to them free choice.  The chicken knows when it needs it.  It can actually do some harm to them, can't remember what, sure it can be looked up here though.  So, don't mix the oyster shell in the food.  So there, I just said what Brad said.   :p
yeah if they get too much when they do not need it it will cause kidney damage among other things. having had a parrot die from kidney failure i can tell you its not fun to see. i do not even feed layer anymore, i just go for all flock and offer oyster shell on the side and i still get nice hard shells and i save a lot of money doing this too :)

Ok, I mispoke.....the oyster shell is in the scratch he throws out with the treats. If they want it, they can get it there. It isn't mixed in with the food.

Of course I want them. I feel bad has I had a cukoo maran that was 7 months old. while we were gone the garden fence fell on it and it died. My yard sitters felt so bad but it was just an accident. I hadn't clipped its wings because I was going to show it at the fair,

Thanks for your friendship.

Chickenmom - I hope the back surgery was worth it for you guys! Not to be redundant, but having back problems is such a pain! It's so fun to read that your girls are doing "the squat" for you, too. Only my Marans does that for me - everyone else is too young.

Sundancen - Arg, poor girl

I'm sorry you lost your Marans. You know the turkey we just lost? Bird bath fell on him. Poor guy was as flat as a board.

Cynthia, I'm kind of relieved to see that your blue girl took a while to bulk up. That blue Amer I got from you is still the smallest of her bunch. Even the SLW is bigger than her now! I can see that she's growing a little, but I always wondered how small she would actually turn out.

Okay, if anyone hears anything from Corvidae, would you please make sure and let us know here? What with all the stuff she's had going on with the Chicken Plague and then the fires, I'm getting really worried about her. Does anyone know of a way to contact her, outside of BYC?

Lets talk showing chickens. I am getting ready to enter some chickens in the fair. I bought some numbered leg bands and I want to know are Barnvelders accepted by the APA? Can you show Frizzles? One time many years ago I had a trio of white Cochins I was going to show at the Utah state Fair. I gave them a bath and thought on the horses I washed with the blueing shampoo to make the white really white BUT IR WAS HAIR. CHICKENS HAVE FEATHERS AND GUESS WHAT they went light purple. The feather shafts absorbed the blueing and so I had purple white cochins. I entered them anyway and everyone had a good laugh at my expense, so this year when they get a bath no blueing

Red, I have Donna's phone number. Let me know if you want it....I am always hesitant to call people because I do not know if they are laying low because they want to.....but I do worry about her too maybe we should check on her! Thank YOU for your friendship :)

Cynthia, I will be rooting for your Marans eggs. Have had such awful luck.. Maybe that new bator will do the trick! I hope so!

Re: oyster shell--my girls LOVE egg shell, if I ever use an egg, I save the shell, in a little bowl on my windowsill. When it dries out i crush it up and put it in their food. I read someone on here toasts them in the toaster oven a few minutes. They always pick it out first thing and gobble it all up. I read that they prefer egg shell to oyster shell and you can add it to their food.....so far it has worked, I have nice strong shells on my eggs so far. I hope adding it right to there food won't hurt them. They get oyster shell in a little tray in the coop nailed to the wall, and I have two that eat that pretty well and I have never seen the others try it so far.

Sundance--- That is funny about the bluing shampoo...note to self.....I am wondering if the showgirl I got from Cynthia could be entered in the fair?

Phoenix, you said you could enter just about any breed here, do you think the showgirl would be ok? She sure is unique.
