Utah!

Birdman thanks for the help! I think that will work. My chickens have an 8x10 enclosed run but I like to let them out in my garden area that has a 6 foot fence around it but nothing on top. So I think putting fishing line will work great because I can run it from the fence to the house on one side and fence to fence on the other. Hope this isn't a dumb question but here it goes..... How close together should I make the grid do you think to scare of a hawk?
Cynthia so happy you have a chick!!! Pictures coming right?! Mine will be hatching in 5 days and I can't wait! (the eggs from bird guy) oh and I wish I could have a Silkie roo.
Sundancen you better be careful or you are going to end up back in the hospital. I can't believe all that you are doing and have planned to do. Be so careful and take care of yourself.
Lisa I can't wait to here how many chickens you had in your car this time! You funny girl
i would say 14 inches or so would be good but that is just my best guess. buy cheap line because you will likely have to replace it yearly. or you can get bird netting at places like lowes, it comes in rolls and does work well but it will keep smaller birds out too and you will clearly see it. i would still mark the fishing line somehow so you can it, maybe a bit of ribbon or something.

Lisa - So wait you had 8 pretty much full sized chickens in your car! we would need a convertible to keep the stench down!

Sphinx, I love that you call them Thing 1 and Thing 2. That is exactly what they look like lol! and....Fertile Polish Eggs! That is all we were missing... It is going to be a hatch-a-rama next spring. My new GSL that I bought to replace HenRee the mean butt feather picker.....is being a mean butt feather picker. I may give up on this breed. What a brat...I really want more of those giant eggs. I sure hope she stops, she is trying to lay and making a racket every day but it is taking her forever. I am doing crossies that she will settle down.

Whew, lots of posts!

Cynthia, I'm so glad your wrong-end baby hatched out okay!
Aunt Hattie, I have seen hawks and falcons in both West Valley and in Tooele, but my chickens are pretty much all in confinement right now. I haven't had a problem yet with BoP trying to get them. Don't try to catch and keep that hawk or any part of it - it might get you in trouble. Scaring it off would be best.
Kimmy, I would take the problem child hen for you, but the cockerel I was going to put her with to let her mellow out was one of the victims of the neighbor's dog

I say rehome that stinker. She just sounds like a bad egg. Pun intended.
Sphinx, have fun in Zions! Lucky.
Sundancen, your whole quail adventure is making me laugh. But of course the quail need more space than the chickens!

My pillow is calling me. Good night everyone, stay safe and well.

Big blue A. Wheatons, white EE mix, and little blue EE.  One of the Wheatons is for sale!
I do believe Dalooras wants one.
Brad, that white stuff is DE!  I have had a bit of good luck with it so far.  Going to check out that site you linked for us.

Although we are newbies, we learned the secret of DE right away and are so happy with the results. The ants now are giving us a run for our money with our fruit trees so we are going to try DE there also.

Still looking for a good BYC home for my golden silkie roo.

When I was down at Anns I asked for some hatching eggs for a friend that had a broody hen. She did however have a beautiful blue egg that I decided to keep. Went to put it in bator and dang I dropped it. It cracked so I fried it and ate it. Oh well its hell to get old
I'm so sorry! In the spring all her eggs were hatching, but the last four I tried were not fertile, if that makes you feel any better. I can save some for you if you're coming down this way again.

FINALLY I have a blue egg, yippee!

so i solved my fly problem along with all the blood suckers and moths. i found a auto sprayer that sprays out a puff of natural fly killer every 15 minutes and covers a 6,000 sq feet area.
Thanks for sharing this info.
I have a baby!

It is yellow! It came from a blue egg.

Maybe there are stripes that I can't see yet..it is the one that pipped at the wrong end yesterday. They are due to hatch tomorrow. I will have more hatch tonight, I can tell.

Congrats!! I hope they go well - you deserve an easy good hatch. Your blue Am is pretty...

Okay so where do you buy DE and how do you apply it? Just sprinkle it around the run? Or do you have to be more vigilant and put it directly on poops? There are a lot of flies in the run now and I'd like to keep them down. I'm also interested in that sprayer thing, how exactly does that work? I have a run that is 14x15 with the 4x8 coop in the kind of middle, where could I place the sprayer to get the whole area?

DING DING DING! What do we have for her Johnny?! You win my black ameraucana rooster! I will be right over, turn on your porch light......
You got it! Four for me. 2 project marans crosses, 1 FBCM, and a second gen olive egger.

( I successfully said no to the clean faced AM after staring soulfully into her eyes and deciding we were meant for each other. Pretty good willpower, huh!)
I had 7 in the car this time with the girls for the BYC friends. Not too bad or stinky.
HEY! I have a family reunion here Saturday too....Mockli reunion....how funny would that be if we showed up at the same one

so if I came on Sunday would that be better for everyone? I thought that I needed to pick up the birds ASAP but if Sunday would work better for me. I am sitting on my couch watching TV resting with my oxygen on. I shipped a kitten to Chicago this morn, Then came back did chicken patrol, The chicks hubby kicked out of the brooder were looking out the window of the new little coop. Really cute. The quail were all under the light in the brooder but 1. Don't know if he will make it. Felt cold, I put him under light. Time will tell
