What breed are they? I can't stop smiling either. I look at my hens and smileThanks! You want a couple?Still doing the hooray for you. I can't stop smiling when I think about you being able to have your girls!!!
Thanks Sphinx! It feels so good. I'm ecstatic I get to keep my babies. I could just NOT imagine myself without any chickens.Hector, that's FANTASTIC news!!! I am so excited for you. I'm glad your landlord looked closer and realized you were doing things right. Bet it feels good to know you get to keep them because you were being a responsible, law abiding citizen, doesn't it?
Delarooshens, I forgot to comment on your sick baby? Is she feeling better? I hope it's nothing serious.
Cynthia, I'm sorry about your lost polish chicks. :-(
Lisa, I'd think the pedophilia joke was funnier if I didn't have a injured bird. Ironically, she is OLDER than the nasty boy, but she's probably only about 1/2 his size. I hope she feels better tomorrow. I haven't had to deal with this issue before- last year, my rooster was the youngest and everyoSpne else was already laying. But, this year, I have two roosters who are older, and trying to chase around pullets who are probably 2-3 months away from laying. Not cool.
That is great, Can't wait to see pics. I love pigs. They scare the crap out of me, but I do like them.Sorry if I missed anything I shouldn't have... pm me if I did... We have had an extremely busy week... My large black hogs all decided to deliver this week, early I might add... The first one had 10 out of 11 survive out in the field before I got them moved into the barn.. talk about a surprise when I went down to feed them on Wednesday!!! That is a huge litter for a first time mom!! We got her moved with her babies up to the barn, kicked the Ancona ducks out of their stall into the field and got the 2nd gilt moved into the barn by dark... She decided to deliver on Thursday... she is a little smaller than her sister, only had 6 babies which were bigger and most got stuck. We had to help her with the delivery and unfortunately lost 4 of them due to the delivery complications.. She did adopt 3 from the 1st litter though and is being a great mom.
So Friday I didn't go to work and the older 2 boys and I got the 3rd stall cleaned out, fresh straw installed and went down to find the 3rd gilt in labor!! We got her up to the barn and she started having babies about an hour later... She had 8, with 6 surviving.. She had one get stuck and 2 that were breech. I was sooo proud of my 16 year old daughter jumping in and helping deliver them!! (My hands are just too big...) It was a first for her (my first assist was the day before..) and she was awesome!!
So we finished up the week with 8 girls and 3 boys from the registered pure bred large black gilts and 5 girls and 1 boy from the 1/2 red wattle 1/2 LB gilt... I'll post some pictures just as soon as I can get some good ones...
Hope everyone is doing well!!
Wow LOTS of congratulations in order this morning! Birdguy, that is awesome you have all those babies, although sorry to hear there were complications. Filling that barn up fast! I had posted one thing for you....wondering if you would want a black ameraucana roo if I cannot find a home for him by the 18th. I am coming back to Idaho that day, and just can't find a home for this one. He is really nice. And free. I cannot wait to see piglet pictures!
Cindy, how awesome you guys got so many ribbons, and Champions wow! I meant to get down there to visit you guys and my daughter ended up having friends over and we had our hands full here, sorry I missed it. Sounds like it was lots of fun though! Hooray for goat prizes! Gotta love that first picture of Jess...that other girl behind her watching her get the ribbon...the look on her face, wishing it was her.
