Utah!

Lisa, I don't think it's the fodder either. Also, if you want to keep their tummys happy, and them, I use the plain Yogurt for that. I saw on the old timers about fermenting, but, I know the yogurt pretty much does the same thing. It sounds like it could save a little on the feed bill, but I am thinking not that big a difference. I was almost ready to do it.
Not sure about the worming thing, in fact, there is a lot of debate about dewoming chickens. Just keep yours chickens on a good diet, keep a clean area for them. And, I do not..believe...it has to be bleach clean! Two seconds later, there's poop. Oh well, back to your drunk chickens.

I sure hope that's all it is, because I can't imagine your chickens being sick, but you never know where it comes from. Some people think they get sick because it's cold. Nah, the cold won't cause it. It's a virus, just like we get colds..from other's or touching where other's did with their dirty cold infested hands. Yuck. Also, and I know you probably know this one, if you just put down some fresh shavings..that can be pretty dusty..and they will sneeze for a while if they were in it while you put it in, or if they got into it right after. If that AVC is going to change the color of my eggs..I'm not using it! I loove..love, my Wheaten Am. egg!! So pretty. Finally one the bluest I've had in a long time. :)

I don't think that the fodder would do it. My girls lay larger eggs when they get fodder and I've never had eggs that got pale like that. Hmmmm........really strange thing with all your eggs getting light. Maybe they didn't drink enough water because of the concentrated ACV? I agree with your plan, though. Get them back on track with plain pellets/water for a few days. They might have a ph imbalance. That's all that comes to mind.

That could be it, that ACV water sat there most of the day hardly touched, then I changed it in the evening as they were headed in to roost. (sigh) should have just tossed the heavily dosed water when it happened, lesson learned. So far everybody looks ok. Elvis still has hiccups though lol but they look a lot happier than they did last night. Cynthia, the shavings did get changed yesterday, in a hurry, and they were in there due to the rain. Maybe just several things contributed to these weird behaviours! So no fodder, no new shavings, no overdoses of ACV and fermented feed...for a few days to let them settle :)

I sold my bunnies yesterday, and have not removed the nipple waterer on the bunny end. I moved the barrier to keep the chickens out, so now they can wander around down there. When I went out to get eggs, and check on my supposedly sickish acting chickens, one of my Marans was drinking out of the bunny nipple waterer. Like she had done this all her life. Pretty smart girl!

My Miss Piggy has taught my other girls a naughty thing, it's the hanging out at the window and begging thing. She will get right up on the metal part of the bottom of the door way, and click away with those nails. Works often enough for her to keep it up. I can't resist when she begs.. I throw out BOSS most of the time. When she's ready for some BOSS, there she is. Now, there they are. Pretty girls.

Wheaten Am. far left, Blue EE, red sexlink, Miss Piggy the leghorn, and Maggie, the
NH. Echo was there, the white EE..she has gotten so pretty, she has more speckles
on her now. And her tail, oh my, it flares out so pretty.

Hi Moriah! Haven't seen you in a long while. How are you? Have a good Thanksgiving? Hope all is well! :))

Hello again!! It's been busy "trying" to get stuff done for Christmas... I still am looking around thinking, what did I get done??

CONGRATS RED on getting the job!! That's awesome!!

Lisa... oh no, that's weird about your chickens!! Does sound like it could be a crazy combination of things all together... glad they are looking better already... if they were sick does the Denagard work that fast? The weather has been nuts up here, too.. lots of rain....

Back to lurking, haha and sorry if I missed something I wanted to comment on... oh yeah, yay for hatching, too!!

Long day, but mostly good. I'll be quick. Lisa, sorry about your sick chickens :( I hope it was just the vinegar. Cynthia, cute picture. Looks like some of my girls. Welcome, newcomers! This is a great place.

Found out tonight that my laptop is toast. Boo. Good night, all.

Cynthia - I was just getting caught up some on recent posts. SO sorry to read about your Golden. DH wondering why I'm crying while reading my chicken stuff. Big HUGS!

The blue Ameraucana hen I got from you is beautiful and has filled out nicely. She just started laying a turquoise egg. I am very pleased.

The Ameraucana roo that Lisa brought is so nice. He made the appearance cut when we slaughtered roosters, his competition attacked my gimpy hen right at that moment, so HE was a goner. Lisa's roo is the only one I have left. He is just starting to call the girls for treats, and he's respectful of me. I think it's the handling she inflicted upon him :).

Except my BIL found he had two roos and he can't have them. So I have one blue EE roo in my sale pen and his Showgirl turned out to be a boy. The Showgirl is white and very shy. Unfortunately he was introduced by himself, and keeps mostly to himself. If you end up with any silkie hens I would be interested in some as friends for him.

QUESTION: Is there a way to tell by looking at pullets, which one laid a new egg? My egg color experiment is going well. I have several shades of green, limey yellow, olive, but today found a sage or light pine green egg in my sale pen. I would like to keep that pullet! People are picking out hens tomorrow so I don't have a chance to watch them... I feel selfish for wanting to hold it back :).

Good to hear from you. Hugs again (still teary). - Ann

Red - Congrats on the job. Hope you had a good day and that you enjoyed it. :)
