I'm getting eggs left and right.. don't want to jinx it by celebrating..so knocking on wood before I do this....

I wish luck to those that are trying to get eggs... C pepper working for anyone? Anyone try it yet?

This is the brown surprise egg I was telling you about..the blue EE isn't an EE apparently,. I don't mind, it's quite a dark red/brown. Caught her on the nest..watched for her to get off, went out, and this was the only egg out there, in the next box she was sitting in. I like it! I am pretty sure it will get bigger..she is big! And she has the deepest voice of any chicken I have ever owned! Very deep.

Mine are being very stingy with eggs as well. I wonder if it is because it has been so dark! I have hardly seen the sun in.....(alot) of days. I went back and forth trying to figure out what happened to my flock last week, I was thinking overdose of ACV, but I do think I had a couple with a cold as well. They are all better now, everybody is over it, but there were definitely some sneezing and runny noses going on last week. Did not seem to be too strong of a bug though. That may have affected their laying as well. The eggs I AM getting are returning to normal color, they were so light for a few days it was really weird! Now they need to just lay more of them. I have 22 layers, 3 are broody, 4 have completely quit for a few weeks I think due to the molting, and so of the fifteen remaining I am getting 5 or 6 a day, for about 5 days now. This morning a lot more were sitting in nests, so maybe it will turn around!
Did you set any cuckoo eggs or just the FBC? They looked pretty dark so I was thinking they are all FBC. I cannot wait to see what color the little mixes from your older Am Hen look like. I bet they will be so cute! I love hatches that have mystery chicks, the anticipation is fun.

I am glad yours are doing better. That would have been a worry.
Mine haven't wanted to go outside since it snowed. guess the ground being white is scary. between the cold and dark they are not a happy bunch. Plus I separated the cuckoo marans so I can figure out who lays which egg. They are nice sized eggs, I will put up a pick when I get one. I didn't set any of the cuckoo, they would have been a cross with the ameraucana rooster. might have been cute though.

that is a nice egg, the cuckoos are about like that. one a little dark and one a little lighter.

Blujems--So the Cuckoo marans with the Ameraucana roo? hmmmm olive/green EE's....maybe I should buy some eggs from you to set after the showgirl eggs are done. You want to set aside and sell me some? I could come pick them up the night of the 20th. If the mom lays nice size eggs then the babies might be really good layers

Yes, I will pull the eggs. Well if they start laying. I did just see one in the nest box so hopefully. Do you want any of the other hens eggs? and how many do ya want?
I have the SLW with the ameraucana rooster now, but she has been with the BCM until sunday.
One of the cuckoos is with the BCM now but was with the ameraucana until sunday.

I will save what ever you want.

Well let's see--cuckoo eggs from the one still with the Am for sure...whatever you get before I come. Will you mark those so I know which eggs might throw green/olive eggers? The one with the BCM, not sure how long her eggs would be fertile from the Amer.--any idea?

Then a few from whoever else to fill up the bator. Some FBCM would be good, I will buy a dozen eggs total, 18 tops. I will just hatch and sell them as barnyard mix likely but it will keep my bator busy and my hatching bug going Pm me and let me know how much I will plan on stopping by the 20th unless you won't be around.

Madchicken, oh my gosh. Your birds are pretty! What breed is Bandit? EE?

im not really sure on her breed. she does lay a blue egg and is really nosey like an EE. her legs are greyish green but she has no beard. she is really freindly and will often follow you in the house if your not paying attention. the funny thing is she is really quite, she dosent even do the egg song.

i know your not supposed to run a light all the time in the coops but i do!

my hens still go to sleep at night like they are supposed to. except when its warm and they are out looking for worms. The first time i seen them doing it i laughed, it looked like had lost something and everyone was trying to help find it. But now its to cold for that. I have the light set on a timer. on at 5pm off at 8am. i usually get 9-13 eggs a day from 13 LF and 3 bantams. you have to work them up to that much light though or they will fight and peck at each other. now they just argue about who gets to sleep by who.

I think Mike told me they are fertile up to 2 weeks after leaving the rooster. But I don't know how being with another rooster would effect that? Anyone know?
I will mark them all though.
Do you want any FBCM or blue wheaten? I will save a few from sparkles if she lays too. she has nice big eggs.

Have you guys seen this picture? I have seen it a couple of times and thought it was pretty funny.. Today when I saw it I actually counted the marks
