Utah!

I wish the timing were a little different. I will be getting mottled houdans and will need a black ameracauna roo. Unfortunately, we are doing major home remodeling right now and there is no space or time to make space for new birds. I have to wait until late march and preferably mid to late April before I can add anything. Le sigh.

no worries check when your ready I may have some left.

Yes she does keep it up all the time. She doesn't walk just stays laying down. If she is forced to walk she just uses her one leg and kind of scoots. It doesn't hang like the other leg when she is picked up. It just doesn't bend down. If it doesn't improve I don't now how she will be able to live like that. Wish I knew what to do to help.

What happens when you pull on it? Hard? Can you pull hard and brace it with a straw?

Lisa, I am trying not to read about the gorgeous babies you're about to get because I need chickens in my front room like I need a hole in the head. But, if you want to stop in and say hi Saturday morning, feel free. I hear you on the messy chicken coop right now. Mine is a wreck, and it's been way too cold to able to clean it up much. I can't believe how fast those showgirls have grown up! By the way, I think it's completely unfair that your chicks are hatching early. That never happens to me.
Well all 8 of the marans are alive at this point..despite not being able to see in them little sneaks..all have at least pipped, a couple are out...BUT I am seeing the awful goop inside the shrink wrap in several so I am not counting on all 8 at this point. They are just so dang thick shelled I can never get them to evaporate properly. I got all the little beak tips cleared enough so that they can breathe, so I won't lose any to drowning this time thank goodness, and so far all are chirping and moving, but 4 of them have lots of waiting to do so I hope they don't move much and stay put :/ This is going to be a long night. I will let you know about the visit ;) Remember, the earlier the living room gets dusty, the earlier you get your eggs this spring....

So we put a straw around it but noticed her hock (?) or joint in that leg is bigger and looks sore. It was just really tight and hard to pull on. Poor baby. She is not happy.

Hattie,
If the Achilles tendon is slipped out of the groove in the back of her hock joint, that would make the chick unable to extend its leg. It would also make that hock joint look different than the other. Maybe this is your chick's problem? If so, it will really help to treat ASAP.

The Poultry Podiatry page on my site (linked in my sig) has info I've collected on identifying & treating. It's at https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/poultry-podiatry#chick_crooked_leg

Hattie, sounds like it is not just the leg being lazy after being hatched. Pain? They usually aren't painful. Laura has a great link to go to. It sounds like your baby may have this problem. Sounds kind of easy to do though. Speckled..we need you around more. :)

My son with Spina Bifida. If you say prayers, please, pray for him. He was in the ER last night for something that has been bothering him for over a month. It was like a tummy flu at first. He thought that was what was going on. It has gotten so bad, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him when we picked him up for the Christmas part. He has lost soo much weight. I can't believe he came, but glad he did. I got on his case for not getting this looked at again..he had been to a PCP. So, this dr. in the ER room last night looked up some lab work that had been sent in, and he never got results on! He himself took some blood work too. He says he has double the white blood cells in there. Working hard on an infection, which is in his lower bowel. Richard is paralyzed from the waist down. Plus, now his left leg is swollen and cold. Dr. thought maybe he had broken it. No. So, he got some strong anti-biotics, and we are now taking him back for what Richard promised he would come back for instead of staying in the hospital. A CT scan. Wish us luck! He just looks so bad.

Oh Cynthia! I will be praying extra extra hard for this son. I hope for the best outcome possible. He is so lucky to have you in his corner. You must be going crazy with worry, take care of yourself also. Prayers for you too!

Thank you Speckledhen. I think that is exactly what it is. I hope I can help this little one. The site gives detailed information and is very helpful. Thank you.

Cynthia your son will be in my prayers. So sorry he has been so sick.

Easter egger, Easter egger, can you spot the Easter egger?
