Utah!

I had the best day yet on eggs! 14 eggs, 11 from my 13 LF and 3 from 4 bantams.

Why to go girls! Maybe something spacial for treats tomorrow. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and waffles.

We just got back from Duchesne-- what a freaking nightmare that was! Car got stuck twice up there. I had to dig it out once, then had to spend an enormous amount of time trying to rock it out when it slid backwards and one of the tires went into a small ravine. My kids we totally terrified the whole time. We had planned to stay the night up there, but the heater in the cabin refused to work and it was snowing like crazy. I was pretty much in tears by the time we got out of there. I did discover that my front tires are pretty much bald, so I'll be getting those replaced Monday. You'd think I would be smart enough to have noticed that before, but evidently not.

The chickens are all fine, except for one thing: someone has stolen 8 of my Legbar hens and Asher's little Americauna. There were 4 wheeler tracks right up to the coop, so I'm thinking they just decided to help themselves. None of the BLRWs were missing from the other pens. We've brought down the remaining 3 Legbar hens as well as 2 of the splash BLRWs. None of the Roos were missing, so I guess whoever took them just wanted their own supply of free eggs. Jerks. I could padlock the pens, but then I would have to worry about them taking wire cutters to the hardware cloth on the runs.

Yay Cynthia for pics of your missionary... awesome!!

Hi Corvidea!! I know everyone was worried about you and what happened with your birds... how irritating that someone stole your birds! That's insane!! Maybe you should start watching KSL for some legbars, sheesh...

Above freezing today, amazing, the run is going to get sloppy, time to throw down more straw, but it's supposed to snow tomorrow, so I'll wait and throw down more after....

2 eggs hatched from my eggs!! One is looking black and the other is looking blue.. Both from my Marans roo, one from a green egg, one from a Delaware egg... So the bator is empty... uh, oh... the girls better start laying better if the weather is going to warm up because I need to set more eggs!! lol!

Wow Donna! So sorry you went through all of that. I know I would have been in tears. And, I can't believe how people just help themselves. I'm glad you got some legbars to home though. Now to find a rooster for those hens! Glad you all made it back home safe and sound, that's what counts!

wow i am sorry someone stole those chickens :( maybe you can put up some cameras? you would think with that being a small town area that someone would know something about who took them. sounds like they did not take them that long ago if you are still seeing tracks. some people are horrible. too bad you do not have a safe place close by to keep a roo or two.

What a mess! It's raining..which we are very grateful for in one way, or two, clean air! Finally. However, that run is a mud pool. Poor chickens. That snow is melting all around the coop, and running right into that run. I think there may be one little tiny dry spot. I was sinking into the mud, slash, food mixture from all this time out there. Wow, I dread when it's dry enough to clean up the run. It's going to be a lot of work to get a lot of the old stuff that's in the ground, out!

Is everyone getting this rain? I think we may have clean air for a while. Yaay.

I have some pictures I took yesterday of my chickens. And, hey Red..where are you? You ok?

I think my non NN is close to laying, look at all that red! :))

Here's my Swedish Flower Hen Should start laying in March..maybe the end of Feb.

This is my Reba. She lays almost every single day. She always jumps up on the roost
out there when I am down, so she can be close. Very sweet girl.

I was trying to get the color of this girls eyes..they are orange as orange can be! Lisa,
are your wheatons eyes orange? This doesn't show it real well, but they are dark orange.
She is one that you have to watch out for while walking. She will just stop and squat. In
fact, sometimes when I am heading out to the gate, I see the girls, and when I start talking,
she squats! I am serious, a good 4 feet away, and she squats. And, I'm on the other
side of the fence. She's a sweet bird too, a talker at times too. She's out there laying
for me right now. :)

Heck, I've got more roosters than I know what to do with-- there are 6 Legbar Roos up there! Once we figure out what to do about the thieving, I'll take the girls back up there and cut down on the boy population. Anyone want a Legbar roo or two? Or three? Or four?, Yeesh!

I need some help with plastic tub brooders. I have seen them with the center of the lids cut out and wire mest attached in the hold. How do you do that? I can't figure how to attach the wire mesh to the center of the lids? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
