I can hardly wait. We have had a beautiful day here. My little silkie mama has been teaching the little chick she has to dust bath. Oh man I love watching babies with their mamas. It is the CUTEST.

I just went to check on the pipped eggs, to see if they had started to zip, well, there was a chick, from an egg that I didn't even know had pipped! It looks black.

The other two have pretty good pips, so just the wait.

Come on Hattie, you should be letting us know that you have some pips by tonight right?

I wish that would happen to me sometime! Mine NEVER come early. I'm sure yours will all be hatched before mine ever even start. I'm happy your fun has begun.

Come on Hattie chicks!

That little baby isn't black, it's blue. Now, for it to be a girl. I would like a blue girl, a black girl, and hopefully one of the ones that Red gave me will be a buff girl. Her buff is the one laying those nice looking olive eggs.

Yay!!! Sundance you are coming to St. George? Are you just driving trough or staying here for a few days? I would love to meet you if you have time. I need to remember what chicks you have hatched and are selling. I can only keep bantam size chickens but you have seramas right? How fun I'm so excited.

I'm driving thru on my way to LA for a cat show. I do have one Serama chick I can sell everything else is large fowl Maybe someone else has bantams

Moriah, where are you, again? It almost looks like a really weird bear print, but I would think they would sink in a lot further due to their weight. Whatever it was, it looks like it was kind of stepping around or moving around in that spot for a minute.

We checked around and found more of the same print other places in the barn. My friends who are into hunting predators are saying its a huge raccoon. We've had a problem with them here. We are at the base of Mt Timpanogos.

Did you still need a chicken apron? I went nuts making a bunch last night and have extras. Almost all the girls are wearing them. My hubby will be so embarrassed. PM me if interested and I'll get one in the mail for you.

Just saw the question on the blue-est eggs---so far my bluest egg layers came from michelle (pawtraitart), they are more of a sky blue, pastel baby blue---and azriel's are blue but more of a turquoisey blue, some are really intense colored and very pretty. All my other ameraucanas so far lay more greenish than blue, it is disappointing so I would not recommend those.! I have some that will be getting new homes this spring due to their egg color being not what I was after. The leghorn/EE I have came from Moriahquilts...not sure if she bought hatching eggs or they are her birds...it is more greenish too...but I really like that hen because she lays so many and they are so big :p

My Leghorn-EE were from CalRanch Leghorns and my own Ameraucana Roo. I have a black Amer hen who lays my prettiest blue. The Leg-EE lay a lighter but clear blue, and all of the other EE were crossed with brown and they lay green or olive, or brown.

I've been getting lots of eggs thru all this cold... Until this last few days. I don't know if I've got egg eaters now or if neighbors are collecting and not telling me, or something else is up. 20 eggs from 25 hens before, now 6-8. They may have run out of oyster shell when I was away for a few days in the care of neighbor. Will that cause egg eating?

Hattie, I hope you get a pip soon!!! And Cynthia, it sounds like you're going to have a hen on every point of the color wheel! Post a picture of your new blue chick!
