No, I didn't see that you're giving it up! How come? I just love mine, the black one is my sweetest chicken. Always first to come up and see me when I go out there and usually first to come get treats when I'm offering them.

My Australorp is just starting to get red, but the black Swedish Flower is redder. No Leghorn, I have a buff sex link, she and the gray Swedish Flower are still pretty pale in the face. I hope they lay soon! I'm so excited! I've started asking them when they're going to lay for me.

I have a quick question about my little blue Swedish Flower actually. She has a section of feathers by her tail that look like they've been cut off. I'm pretty sure she's at the bottom of the flock just from watching her behavior so I suspect this is just an aspect of that, but wanted to ask you folks if I should be worried or look more into that.

Love your swedish! hmmm, have to wonder about that black one? No crowing yet? Could be a pullet, some do have the larger wattles. I'm trying to see that body better in that last picture ~ wondering about saddle feathers. Anyway , look at the difference between..your beautiful..blue girl and the black. Big difference in the comb and wattles. Your Australorp looks like she could be laying by the end of this month, or the first part of next! She's getting red. Same with that red girl with your boy..is that the sex link?

I hope they lay this month! I would be a happy lady! Ohh! Don't wonder about the black one! She's (?) my favorite, I don't want to have to get rid of her! I'll get some better body pictures today. No crowing, but both of the Swedish are pretty quiet.

Awww, Cyndi cute cute babies! Sorry you are getting so many boys though! I can see why #3 has been stumping you, it does look a little more questionable than the other two. Funny how they are looking at their little furry legs so much in those pictures The OE is really pretty too!

Last night the verdict became "boy" on the blue wheaten baby I hatched a few weeks ago. Lots of blue in the body, red around the neck. I keep hoping girl..it really looked girlie for a long time. but this last week it was becoming denial I think

Aravis, on that last picture---on the back, just before the tail starts, are those feathers pointy at all? Hard to tell from that pic...looks like maybe there are just a few on the very top coming in that are pointy....a tiny bit of curling starting on the end of that tail....

Nothing seems pointy back there. There are pointer feathers on the neck, but the back seems pretty blunt.

Well that is a good sign Aravis! Keep an eye on those. They should be rounded like the other feathers....this is about the age you see them popping up right there in the crease between the back and the tail....little pointy devils. If you see them then you will know the news is not good, Martha would become Martin Until then, pray for the girlie signs to keep a'coming!

Wow, great picture of Martha! So far, she looks like a she, Lisa is right, pointy isn't good. So far so good! I am going to go see if I can find that one photo of a Swedish Flower Hen, that has the most huge wattles on any hen I've ever seen! So, that's why I am thinking there is a chance it could be a girl.

Ok, Arivis, found this video that has a hen almost just like yours, only with the cap..and it has a large comb and wattles..check out the wattles on those boys! And, you can see what Lisa is talking about the saddle feathers on the boys on this.

There is a girl standing right next to a roo that has some pretty nice sized comb and wattles. So, I'm thinking yours could very well be a girl. Funny how some have the big wattles, and some don't. We'll be waiting to see what comes first, the egg, or the crow!

I forgot to comment on your plants last night.. I have grown amaranth, too... very cool plant, very pretty, and LOTS of seeds, it grows like a weed in my garden.  I also have comfrey... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the comfrey.. you can make a fertilzing tea out of it, kind of like the Save-A-Tree you can buy at the stores.  Great plant..  Oh, and I'm still debating on the price... I know they sell for ridiculous amounts of money from some places.. I would like to give you all a good deal on them... still up in the air as to what that 'deal' would be... what do ya'll think is a fair price?

I candled my eggs tonite...  ALL Marans and Ameracauna eggs are developing!!!! set 20, pulled 2 that are clear, which would have been easter eggers... silly hen probably wouldn't let that young annoying Amer cockerel near her, lol

Oh, and Aravis...  love the pics of your birds!!  Cyndiloo..  not experienced enough with those MArans yet to comment...  I'm sure Michelle can help you=)

yep i make the compost tea too. and comfrey is also a great compost starter
