Utah!

You ladies are making me chick hungry with all those cute pictures LOL I am new to this board and learning a lot. It feels this winter I have gotten a crash course in chicken care. :p

You'll like it here. There are a lot of knowledgeable, friendly people!

Lilwanis, you are very nice. I would have snowballed that hawk. And your story about Pearl makes me giggle.

I went out to collect eggs just now. Pearl, my puppy of an EE, raced into the coop, and was there waiting for me when I opened the nest box. I told her that she could lay her egg after I collected the eggs. She looked at me, shrugged, and flew out. I told her that the hawk was going to get her and that she could not come out today. She danced around my feet, oblivious to my panick. With a pocket full of eggs, I went to the patio to sit for a moment. She came and jumped on my lap, shooting smug looks at the others, still in the coop. I sat there hoping she wouldn't land on my pocket and get egg all over both of us, while trying to empty my hands so that I could grab her and take her back to the coop. She then spotted the meal worms that sit next to my chair and moved off of my lap to pointedly peck at the jar. I stood up, careful not to break the eggs in my pocket, grabbed the jar, and started to walk toward the run. She did a dance around my feet, doing her best to try to kill us both. I dumped some meal worms through the top of the run to distract the others. Pearl pecked at my hand. I finally opened the run and started dumping mealworms liberally in the pen, Pearl jumping happily and catching them in mid air. I then closed the run on her. Spoiled brat

I was just saying today- they only love me for my mealworms!

If only I could bride my kids so easily!

So...maybe I should give up the idea of eggs altogether and just run a home for "lost boys"?
This is the wheaten olive egger, now 5 wks. While I was typing this, I heard my 10 wk old olive egger crow for the first time....sigh

Oh no! How frustrating. I keep telling myself that I am going to have a lot of chicken dinners since I am hatching so much this year. I sure hope I can manage it.

Man you are having bad statistics this season lol! This was me last year. I see three rows on the peacomb on this one, and the legs look a little longish and thickish... Still not a total slam dunk, but plan B might be good to start thinking about lol! (sorry ;)) Welcome agregor! This is the happiest place on earth, NOT disney. No lines here  Hope you make it your new home. Do you have your chickens yet or are you just planning your first flock? It is so exciting!

Do I see three rows of bumps on that comb? Oh dear.................

Cyndiloo when is your first hatch due? How are the eggs coming along? I am waiting for my eggs from DMRippy, wondering how yours are are doing, if they survived shipping in good fashion

They are due on the 21st. All of my shipments had bad air cells & many got tossed due to lack of developing after being so scrambled but hers are doing really well. Her eggs are now my only hope for Marans. I have 5 SBELs in lockdown & looking great and 6 or 7 BBS Marans in lockdown. Not quite 50% but considering the air cells I am pleased.
One of the other shipments I ended up with only 1 out of 22 eggs & with my luck....it will be a boy

. No Tolbunt polish came even close.
I would absolutely buy from DMRippy again. I liked the way she packaged the best By Far!
