Utah!

Red, all three of your eggs that went into lock down have hatched. The one from the OE has really puffy cheeks! Can't tell with the last one yet, still wet.

Monster egg is still hangin. Not too worried yet, I can see the beak, so I know it's breathing fine. It has made a bit more of a hole. Wondering if it can't turn with that big ol air sac. Will wait until later today to see if it does anymore. Don't want bad legs.

Is there a way to tell what went wrong?

Not really. So sorry.

Congratulations Blujems!!!! I hope all will be well!

I came home from work to find a surprise! Didn't even see her there until the dog tried to sniff her and got his nose pecked.

It's Chuck Norris, my Leghorn/EE from Cynthia! She's sitting right outside our side door behind the wood bin. Clever girl. She's got at least five eggs under her. I am stunned that she snuck them past me!

I have a broody!!!!

Mine has already gone broody too! She should stay stuck if she is anything like mine was. Fun, wait till you see what you can hatch! I will post pictures probably tomorrow. Not feeling too hot. I better get better fast..we both have a dentist appt. tomorrow..cleaning.

I helped the big baby out. Good thing I did. All of the blood was gone, just a tiny bit of stringy on the end, but the head was a little flat on the top of one side. And, he/she didn't hang her left leg down at first. I thought so. Couldn't turn, I'm guessing more because it is so big. Sounds and acts strong.

Another question from a newbie... We started making plans for our brooder (now hoping to get chicks in mid-March), but the area in our garage is pretty cold (60-70 degrees even under a heat lamp).  I know it will be a little warmer in a month, but probably not the recommended 95 degrees for new chicks.  How important is it for chicks to be that warm?

Put a second heat lamp on them. I do not measure the temps in my brooders-- just go by how the chicks are acting. I doubt any of the brooders have an ambient temp greater than 80, but right under the heat lamp is much warmer. Gives the chicks a variety to pick their comfort level.
