Utah!

Cynthia, i ran to get a coke today will i was helping my sister move and i drove a couple blocks from your house. i was so temped to stop and see what chicks you had to sale. But i resisted the urge. Still waiting for some BLRW chicks, this will be the only chicks i add to my flock this year. Im sure with all this broody business i will add chicks but will have to rehome them, even if the kids name them.

Corvidae, Sorry that none of your wellsummers made it, and that you had to toss 30 eggs. That bites.

UtahChickenMom, glad to see you back. Sorry to hear that you've been through so much. Congrats on beating cancer and the new boobs you'll be getting out of the deal.

Aravis, congrats on the first egg. I have to admit I did blow out my first few eggs and kept them for months.

Acemario, I love that spreadsheet. My inner geek is jumping up and down. I think I need to do that.

Red, your flashlight makes allllll the difference in candling. At day 5, you should be able to see veining, but if your light isn't good enough, you won't see much. My friend is incubating some of my eggs, and I was teaching her to candle. I was using her flashlight, and couldn't see much. So, I brought out my light, and it was night and day. heh.

Blujems, hate to say it, but those FBCM all look like roosters. Such cute baby goats! With all of these funny sounding goat videos going viral, I really want a goat. But only if it's "broken" and sounds like those. Is it common for them to make sounds beyond the "normal" goat sounds?

UrbanChickensUT, I've noticed that some of my chickens are just messier than others. When it really drives me crazy, I take it in and clean it off.

Sphinx and Madchicken - Thank you for the advice! It's appreciated.

I got my bator up to temp/humidity tonight and set my Icelandic eggs! If I don't die in the next three weeks, it will be a miracle. I work all day on weekdays, so I'm going to recruit my family to help me turn the eggs while I'm not there. I will bribe them if I have to

And, there's some minor nonsense about a court date somewhere in there, but this is why I'm incubating, right? Baby animals are a great antidepressant! This is my hope, anyway.

Don't worry if you don't get the eggs turned every so many hours... I saw a study where the university actually showed a better hatch rate never turning the eggs!! I have done a few eggs that way but usually try and turn at least twice a day... First thing in the morning and then again at night... I have good hatch rates with just the two turnings per day...

Most of the goat sounds out there are bucks talking trying to get the girls attention. They are very vocal, but I wouldn't reccomend one as a pet. They get a little stinky. The girls can do that when in heat, but not always. There is always one that is more vocal though.

That is reassuring to hear. Thank you

I was really worried when I realized that I wasn't going to be able to turn the eggs while at work. I've never hatched eggs before, so this is all a new experience and I'm a nervous mom.

I have an early pip....They are not due til tomorrow afternoon. These are Wheaten Ameraucana Eggs.

Woohoo!
