Utah!

maybe its a silver duck wing. I love bantams, you never know what your going to get. And they are very hardy!

Now I have to go look up duck wings! I love the silkies soo much. But I don't want a lot of broodys. Now, I remember something about Lisa saying broody..Japanese. Oh dear. Well, just these two for bantams. Sweet Pea, my Favorelle needed a small buddy. Small she is!

Oh boy, I'm hearing the egg song big time out there this morning. I think they are loving the warmer weather.

Was thinking about letting them out to free range yesterday, remembered I had heard a hawk the other day, didn't bother to look up, I know that sound, but decided to check out our friendly neighborhood Cooper's Hawk spot. Yep, there he was, up in the top of that neighbors tree, just watching and waiting for me to let my girls out.
This is going to be such a worry this year. Those hawks are so fast. I would say I won't let the younger pullets out, but it doesn't seem to matter what size when those things are hungry. One took down my friends golden laced W. last year. Full size hen. I'll have to be careful where I put treats. Hopefully under the apple trees will be more safe. Then again, my DH saw one..probably that very hawk, take off with a bird right out from under our front apple tree. He came in all worried and said, go check your chickens..isn't it wonderful how your better half comes around to your hobby, ..ahem..yes, hobby..anyway, we figured it was taking off with a dove, we had them under the apple tree a lot last year.

Looking up Duck Wings. :)

Ok, thinking not a duck wing. The babies have the chipmunk look to them. I didn't see any black ones. She will be fun to watch grow.

Cynthia, the baby is too cute. So small. You worry me with the hawks. I have not seen one around here and let my girls free range usually when I am home. THey have been loving it after being cooped up all winter long. We will make alterations to the run for the coming winter so they can be out more than they could this year. Ughhh, I think that was part of my problems.

Red, I am glad it was not AC visiting you, but what a scare. I hope your problems will be resolved quickly so you can be happy

Ann, good luck on the move.

Trying to keep up with all of you. Life is busy around here these days.

I remember Lisa, I thought of yours once I thought Japanese.   I am thinking that's about as small as the hatcheries will go, and they must be hardy to be  ship them.  I have heard they are really sweet.  This one is already.  That neighbor that had one, was Hector.  :)

Hector! Where has that kid been lately anyway? I miss his sweet self. Hope he is doing good. I was remembering how cute last year when he got his first chick shipment, he was sooo excited. I thought of him when I went to pick up mine, I felt about the same way

Snow, snow, go away, don't come back another day.....

Cynthia, that little chick is tiny, I forget the size difference of the bantams. I hatched a few out last year.

I have a dozen eggs I was going to set tomorrow, unless someone wants them. 5 FBCM and 5 wheaten ameraucana an EE and one that should hatch as an OE (wheaten ameraucana with a FBCM) Maybe a couple extra eggs (depending on who lays today)

Lisa..snow? We are supposed to get moisture today sometime..hope it isn't snow. I don't think you guys are in for a lot though from what I was hearing last night.

blue, wish you lived closer!

Just candled my eggs under my broody. only two look good, the other three are clear. My two RIR eggs didn't turn out. Maybe my rooster isn't big enough for the job, after all he is a bantam and KFC is the biggest hen in my flock. But I'm pretty sure i have opened eggs from her and seen some good bulls eyes.

I will be letting the mamas introduce their chicks to the flock this weekend. I really need to start breeding Ratchet and Cotton, my pretty little silkies. Was thinking about adding a frizzle silkie to the mix but not to sure. Does anyone know how they are about being broody. I just got rid of a broody and not sure if i want to replace her with another broody.

A frizzled silkie is just a silkie with frizzled feathers. They have the same characteristics as silkies so yes they are broody. I have some frizzled easter egger I am going to sell the eggs. Do you have a bator? Also am going to have some sizzle eggs.

I have some Serama chicks available if any one is interested. You don't get this breed at the hatchery. they are pretty delicate. These chicks are 4 weeks and 2 weeks. I may also have some eggs for sale. This breed is pretty rare.
