I so want some BLRW. does anyone have any hatching around Monday? Corvidae? I have two sex links ( yes i finally got some from my flock as long as my colors are true) that will be hatching under my broody on Monday and i could probably sneak a couple more under her. Oh sorry cyndiloowho, beautiful chicks, The bigger one seems to have more black then blue but Corvidae is the expert. Are these from eggs or hatchery?

Yeah, I've been very tempted to buy eggs or chicks off of Corvidae several times. Her birds are gorgeous, and I love seeing a variety of chickens in my yard. Dang that self control!

hello i am very new to chickens and love mine already i was wondering if you can have a feather legged breed in with the smooth legged breeds, because i really like the look of Cochins but i don't know if my other girls will let me have one in with them. help please?

Unlike humans chickens do not see color, breed, or feathered legs. Chickens all look the same to a chicken. Feathers are part of a chicken, just like hair is part of a cat or dog. They will get along just fine, as long as you introduce the new comer to the flock slowly. A pair that has been raised together always works great. A young pair can quickly move up the rank in the chickens and take over the flock.

I have feathered legged chickens in with clean legged chickens. They really don't care either way. To them, a chicken is a chicken. I even have bantams in with Large Fowl, and have a pretty happy flock. It's best to have at least 2 new chickens to put in with your already established flock. It lets the newbie have a buddy so they aren't totally left out, and the established flock doesn't pick on just a single chicken while they are sorting out the new pecking order. Where are you located?

Here's a picture of my 2 that hatched yesterday. (3rd egg quit right around lockdown.) The rusty colored chick is bantam Cochin x Wyandotte. The yellow chick (which I was NOT expecting to be that color!) is pure bantam cochin. She is the product of 2 calico cochins. Will be really interesting to see what color she turns out to be as an adult!

Madchicken- these 2 BLRW are from a breeder. I ordered the eggs from chicken scratch poultry. I also picked up a hatchery BLRW on impulse to insure a pullet. I couldn't believe the difference.

Cynthia, thought this would give you a smile. Cotton has became best freinds with Little Red, my handicap RIR. In two days she has abondund her 9 week old chick for the company of the adults. Tonight was the second night out of the a-frame and Cotton was sleeping in the same nest box as Little Red. I have never had hens share the some box. Ratchet is very found of Cotton and does not like anyone picking her up. Today i was in the coop kneeling done and picked her up and Ratchet attacked my.Well he tried, since he has to lift his head up to see, it was pretty sad. He ran straight into my knee and fell over. He got up and slowly walked away make all sorts of noise, ( good thing we dont understand chicken talk cause im pretty sure there was a lot of bad words), but he keep looking back to make sure i wasn't going to sneak attack him.

Oh, sorry, poor, poor Ratchet!!

Who'd you get the SFH eggs from?

A few different places, some from Kentucky, KYTinpusher, some from Juststruttin in California

Lisa... yes I am planning on Chickenstock, I requested it off for work, haha... We'll see how my hatches go... I have Light Sussex, BLRW's, some BBS Orps and Lav Orps in the bator now, along with some German New Hampshire and mystery Marans eggs.. and of course, some of my own, lol... (did I mention DH let me get another bator??)

Those are nice looking chicks--look a lot like mine do, which bodes pretty well. The one on the right may end up being a Black Laced Red--from the pic, it's a little on the darker side, but still possibly a Blue. The one on the left is pretty certain to be a Blue Laced Red. If those two lace out nicely as adults, you'll likely have some show quality or near show quality birds there. They look to have some good blues coming out on them. You really can't tell the true quality on BLRW's until they are close to full-grown, but these two look to be off to a very promising start.

Thanks for the help! Good to know they are a nice quality too, my daughter will be thrilled! It will be interesting to watch the colors as they feather out.
