Question My son likes to feed my chicks their shed feathers is that bad?

Madchicken, looks fertile to me! See how it's a ring of white, rather than a solid white dot? Here's a shot of a fertile egg from one of my chickens. You can see the bulls-eye ring better:




Rykel - Umm, I've seen my turkeys eat shed feathers, but I'm not sure that I would encourage it. I would be worried that it would turn into a feather-picking habit for the chickens.

Does this egg look fertile. Its one of Cotton's. She Has been with the rooster all week. I know its a little hard to see.

Lisa, I keep forgetting to post this for you. I got a picture of some of my blue eggs so you can see what shade they are.




Woops! Sorry, I don't know why it's on its side. Anyway, there's two of the blue eggs in my hand, with an olive egg next to them, and I'm in my olive green pants, for comparison. This is the most accurate picture of their color that I could get.

Also, I'm a little bummed. My boyfriend called me this morning and said that with all of the snow melting, he's been able to do a lot of cleaning up in the back yard. He also found two of my chickens that went missing. Turns out they were mauled to death

I really hope I don't ever have to shoot dogs to protect my flock, but dangit, if they keep harassing my chickens and I'm there, I'll do it.

Red, you know I love that Olive egg..Seriously. The ones you gave me were that color..I'm sure..same chicken..but, they didn't develop. That's, the color I want to find in my bator. These last eggs I got have some pretty ones in there, but those brown ones are ugly! Some of the Olive eggs I was sent had spots on them, no, I don't want spots. lol..I want an egg like that! DH calls them the army green eggs.

Gary, you need to have a little talk with Cotton, although, didn't she just finish up being broody? She needs a rest. Maybe if you put some of hers in the bator she will go broody in a while, then you could put them under her. Or, whoever goes broody first. Who is the daddy of her eggs?

Lisa..here is my little Japanese. She is soo tiny. I can tell she is getting some more feathering, but man, I can't tell if she is growing. I guess, a little. She is going on two weeks is my guess..I've had her a week, and how old are they when the feed stores get them? She had quite a long feathering going on in the wings. That's why I got her, thought, oh boy..long feathers in the wings! lol..this better be a girl. She is much smaller than the one I just got from sundance..and she said hers is the M. Serama. It's three weeks old, and the same size as my last hatch..they are around three weeks old too..I think. Is your baby this small? I put her up on DH's computer desk. He stuck his finger up by her so you can see the size of her.

The EE that I got for a companion for her has already out grown her, in just a few days!
Oh, that EE looks to be splash! Whoot!

Ratchet is the rooster. The splash. They are in a separate coop and run then the rest of the flock. There is only 4 birds in her run. Her, her chick, Ratchet, and Little Red my special needs RIR. So they will be pure Silkies. Not mixes. Ratchet is also bearded like Cotton and has the full head feathers so the chicks should be really good looking.
