Yep, that would be about right. That's my guy.

Just joined BYC.... hello to all the fellow Utahns.  I'm out here in Duchesne (husband wouldn't move my way when we started dating...lol).

Welcome to BYC! And the Utah thread :) I love chicken people and we have really great local chicken people.

Speaking of...the eggs Sundance gave me are due to hatch this coming Friday :D for the first time I am really optimistic that some chicks will hatch. Most of them showed development when I candled last week. The houdans go into lockdown on Saturday. I only saw four out of twelve with them, but am leaving them in til the finish. I have birchen marans in also, but they are only four days in. They are the first eggs that I have had shipped to me that had 100% in tact air cells. Feeling pretty optimistic about them also.

My irritated post for the day: went to turn my compost on the east garden lot and discovered a vole mound. :gah what do you even do about those??!?!! I have been gardening my whole life and never run across those. I found one in a field once and it became a pet for a few years, but have never had one in my yard/garden. Maybe because I have always had cats...? My cat died last spring.

My Icelandics got a hold of one of my chicks and tore it apart, then started eating it

So I'm down to one chick. WHY do my animals keep dying?!?! It's not like I don't do everything I can to care for them! I boarded up that stupid cage so that there was nowhere for a chick to get out! And now my broody is freaking out, and so is the lone chick. I am so mad. I don't know what to do. So I caged the Icelandics and those stupid birds can STAY in there for another three weeks until I get more eggs!!

I had babies hatch yesterday. come get one so your baby isn't alone

Quote: Find the hole in the mound and stick the garden hose in the hole and let it drown. If you see water coming out of any other hole put a brick or something else to block the hole. Sometimes it takes a few trys until you find the main tunnel. It will be the one running at an angle down instead of parallel with the surface. This has always worked for me.

Ah, Red, I am so sorry.....they can be real buggers at times...I have one in time out right now too.

Welcome Desert Springs! I had some cousins grow up in Duchesne! Corvidae owns some recreational property out there too. Tell us about your flock.

Red, I'm so sorry about your baby. Go buy some chicks from Sundance so the remaining one isn't alone.

Ahhh, slvrphoenix, you silver tongued devil. I still really need to meet you and Blujems.

Never had a vole. No idea what to do.
