Utah!

Pictures of my babies. Little Serama in the middle. Those little bantam cochins almost look like twins. One has more brown/red on it. The one on the right. Tiny Tot. I haven't had one in a while..but this baby is as tiny as my Japanese I got. Pretty cute! Pretty tiny. :) This bantam cochin has more red/brown This one has more black.. just can't see at this angle. Tiny little ones too. The eggs were pretty small. I had to help them all out. They were so ready! I'm glad I caught it. They are drinking real well, just not eating as well yet. They pick at the food though. They are getting it slowly but surely. Nice feathered legs on these babies. :) Cute! I think I will keep the one with more black on it..cochin for sure for me. :)
Not looking. Oh they are so cute!!!! Sundance I am sorry about your loss .

I have a retarded RIR bantam. She is very broody but she forgets where the eggs are that she is suppose to be hatching, She gets up to eat and drink then invaribly goes to a different nest to sjt. then hunkers down and does not want to be moved. I tried moving the eggs to the nest she went to but it doesn't matter she goes to a different nest. Very frustrating. On the other hand our other RIR aka Ruby large thinks she needs to be a house chicken. She has figured out how to come in the doggy door. She likes to come in and eat the dog food. She then explores the house to see whats up. The kitten thinks she should be a playmate and pounces on her back like she does the dog. Unfortunatley Ruby does not play like the dogs. She squawks and pecks and acts disgruntled. When shes done exploring the house she goes back out the doggie door and tells all the other hens about her grand adventure, She is the rattiest hen you have ever seen missing feathers and old but she is a character and will always have a home with us, She was a rescue I did last year had been savaged by dogs but I took care of her and now she is out sort of house chicken

I stopped at the Riverton IFA tonight. I cant believe how many different breeds the have. Who was looking for the Black Jersey Giants? Yep they got them. I was so temped to come with 4 new chicks. My wish list was a Silver Sebright, a Welsummer, a Silver Hamburg and a Speckled Sussex.

Ooo madchicken, I see a Welsummer?

Red, that baby is darling..is that the one you got from sundance?

I will take pictures of the babies that hatched today from the eggs sundance gave me a while back. They are so small and cute. The little bantams are small too. I think the smallest one is a Serama. It's black. The cochins are black and brown.

I am still having problems with my head! It just isn't getting better, in fact, today it was so bad I caved and went to the dr. He says I could have Meniers didsease. I looked it up. I don't think so. This is non stop dizzy and woozy, my eyes hurt, and my ears have a horrible loud ringing in them..non stop. I've had the ringing for years, but nothing ever this bad and loud. It's driving me up the wall. Of course he wants me to take something for dizzy, and something for upset stomach, and he wanted me to try some other things like valium, I said no thanks. Finally, the last thing to try that I knew I could handle is Prednisone. It will be a taper off med. unless it works this week, then I just stop it. Man I hope it works! I have to do a follow up with my own dr. when he gets back next week. My eyes are just buggy, blurry vision. They feel swollen. I am a mystery as usual. I was talking to sundance about it, thought I may have problems with my blood pressure. They said it was good. My ears look ok. ?? ?? ??

So, anyone up for a cute little chick, that will stay little? I want to keep one. If one is looking like a girl, which I think a couple are already. :D

Sounds a lot like what I have had going on. The ringing in my ears is pretty quiet, though. But I never used to have a constant ringing. Not until I passed out. And I do have low blood pressure. Interestingly, I found out that my dad has had something similar for years. He had bad vertigo a few years ago, and he has had the same problem I do with moving too quickly or standing up to fast - dizzy, feeling like someone is going to cut your strings and you'll collapse, sick. The doctors don't know what it is that's causing it for him, either.

Some of my problem with my eyes is eyestrain, I think. Serious eyestrain. I've been using eye drops and trying to remember to blink more.

That chick is Vona, the little black Icelandic I lost. Cute little thing. I'm glad I got pictures of her and Sorg, the other chick that we lost.

Edit: I forgot to say, I'm also trying to adjust my diet and nutrition. I don't trust all of the medications that are floating around out there. I'd rather try fixing some things naturally before I get loaded up on other things. BUT, that is only my personal view

Last night we had quite a poultry hunt. I was out in the backyard shaving the dogs and decided to let the Seramas out of their pens to run around the yard. Its cute. Each rooster keeps their little girls together as they move around the yard. I like to groom and shave the dogs outside this time of year as the hair makes wonderful bedding for birds . I recieved a phone call that was very upsetting. A close friend of mine had died I was shocked and upset. Went into house to have a good cry. I finally noticed it was dark so went outside to lock everyone up. two of the serama pens had the proper chickens in it. The third was empty. Ed came and helped me look. We searched the yard for 45 minutes. No chickens anywhere, I went back out to the chicken run and noticed a small black lump on the 6 foot block wall fence. Looking closer it was one of the black Serama hens. We looked over the wall and the little darlings had escaped over a 6 foot wall to the neighbors yeard. Here we are in the dark trying to figure how to scale the wall after all the 10oz tiny Seramas did it. We finally got a ladder, Ed climbed up the ladder to the top of wall then pulled it up over the wall into the neighbors yard and went chicken hunting. I wondered if the cops would be called after all Ed was wandering around the yard with a flashlight hunting for the chickens Finally found them handed them over and repeated the wall crossing. Needless to say that pen of Seramas is grounded to the pen. Good exercise anyway

I am so sorry about your friend passing

That is hard. I'm glad you found the Seramas OK, though. And your RIR stories made me laugh. I can picture Ruby exploring the house

And if your broody is suffering that badly from senior moments, why not try keeping her in a smaller enclosed area with the nest? Don't know if it's possible for you or not, but it could help?

Hi Mad chicken and Red III, thanks for the response. "Monk" is the Americana that is molting and she has always been the odd man out of the flock....so for her to be so aggressive is really interesting...or maybe she's tired of all the harassment she's been getting. Today wasn't as bad so maybe they are settling their differences. Definitely don't want any broken bones or ripped off combs! Will just let them sort it out and hopefully they will settle down. Thanks again.

Sundance, I am so sorry for your loss! Glad though that you located all your babies. Big hugs to you!

Been hatching peeps today, I had 13 GSL hatch, 9 boys and 4 girls. Nice stats huh? They knew how many more roosters I needed :) A really good hatch though, 26 total eggs out of 30 went to lockdown and 24 made it through. I got a super cute barnyard mix, that looks like a SLW chick, but a little different, I want to think it is a boy because the comb looks really wide, but is the only one with the unique coloring so I am hanging on to that one to see how it turns out.
Fun day. Except for all those little white boys that kept popping up. :/ My neighbor took some tonight, we made the little electrical tape flapper booties for one of her GSL chicks toes, just to prevent them from curling, it was wanting to curl them up while walking, I think her boy got a real kick out of the little boots on the chicken :) I used to babysit this boy before he started school, he is a hoot, great imagination, I can picture all the fun things going through his mind as he is laughing at this little chicks shoes.

Red, they are still trying to figure you out, huh! And Cynthia now...I sure hope you guys do not have anything long lasting or permanent! Big hugs to you both and I hope you get to feeling back on track.

I think I remember Monk. Does she have a dark face and beard? Hang in there! Last year, how I came to be on this thread, my very first post was what to do about this mean EE I had that was terrorizing my bantam cochin. It ripped a big whole in her back after a few smaller attacks...she was just mean to the bone and I could not get her straightened out. I got rid of her, and it took a few more to go before the meanies were gone, she started some bad habits. I tried everything. Glad yours is doing better, I hope it stays that way for you!
