Utah!

This is a lesson on how to get the chicken coop cleaned. Put an add on KSL offering hatching eggs. get a phone call from someone wanting chicken poop. Tell them you have lots of chicken poop mixed with shavings on your coop. Accept an off to clean your coop if they can have contents. Of course I accepted. Set time to have slaves come over. Slaves appear on time man and woman. Woman very very smart. She wore three inch heels. Pretty funny watching fashionista in three inch heels cleaning coop with devoted boyfriend. Enter Ruby the RIR. She insisted the three inch heels hold her. Boyfriend finish cleaning the coop while heels held ruby who is easily the ugliest chicken ever seen due to moulting and massive feather loss. After coop is cleaned and chicken poop in bags tucked in car trunk . Accept insisted payment of $20.00 for chicken poop. I told them it was worth watching that lady clean the coop in heels but they insisted anyway. Nice people

Oh my goodness wind is the least favorite of the nasty elements for me. Always breaks something I swear! Hope it comes and goes quickly!

RE: Showgirl eggs, I am trying to get some from Silkie_sue, (varner lane fancies) she says anyday now they will start to be ready for shipping. They had a cold snap there, bad weather, hens not laying, etc. I also have some ordered from rivendell farms in NC, but his all went broody or molted at the same time. When they start shipping again I will post on here if you want to check in, you could get some from them if you are interested :)

Thank you! I hope it passes quickly and everyone will be safe. I strongly dislike the wind. Ughhh

No power outage allowed! I have eggs in the bator! The wind is starting here. I said something to my DH before I sat down here and read that Brad! I hope we don't get it as bad where we are, but, we are down from a canyon. :/ Maybe it won't be as bad as they think?

No power outtage. I have Isbars and my BLRWs hatching right now and more Welsummers and Cream Legbars set. Power outtage=sadness.

So remember our little saga with the lousy neighbor that was upset that our LGD was too noisy? (along with the ducks and pigs) Well, I took documentation into the prosecutors office about the right to farm laws etc.. and have never heard another word. We got nasty texts for about 3 weeks from this neighbor but in talking to the other neighbors, Porter wasn't barking as much. Basically exactly what we expected to happen, happened.. As he got accustomed to what was normal etc. He barked less and less..

Anyway, we took last years pigs in for processing last week and yesterday we took a package of pork chops, sausage and a dozen eggs to each of the neighbors around our 10 acres with the following letter from Porter

Dear Neighbors:

The past 2 months has been real hard.
I'm learning my new job.
I'm supposed to keep the varmints out
and keep my charges safe.

The first few weeks especially
when everything was new
I'm embarrassed to admit I barked
at more things than I should

I've recognized a truck or two
belong here on our street.
Now I try to only bark
at things both strange and new.

I'm sorry if I've bothered you.
I hope we can be friends.
I want to be your neighbor
and keep the job I love.

From me and all the gang out here
A little taste for you
Some meat and eggs for you to try
We hope that you enjoy!

PORTER

Now wait for it.......................................

After my daughter (16) and son (5) went to the problem neighbors house, she gets in the truck with this strange look on her face and says.. "Isn't this the neighbor we've had issues with?" and explained what had happened.. .. The neighbor was really nice and said how she loves our eggs.. oh and did you process the pigs? I'm going to miss them.. I loved sitting and watching them out in the pasture... Oh good.. you have new piglets.. can't wait to see them... and on and on....

Whatever!!!

Anyway... all the other neighbors loved the care package and no one said a word about Porter bothering them.. Then tonight when I got home my DW says that one of the neighbors had called her today to tell her thanks, and said Porter didn't bother them.. in fact they liked it that he barked when something was going on and they would go outside to check it out... They have cows calving the last few weeks and almost lost a calf to a coyote pulling it under the fence.. luckily another of our neighbors went outside to check out the ruckus and saw what was happening and chased it off.. saved the calf.

I am so glad we have Porter!!!
