You tease me constantly with those blue eggs from that gorgeous hen. Who is/are the daddy/daddies do you know? I have one of that hen's sisters, from Moriahquilts same as yours, but not as speckled, she is almost solid white. Her eggs are not as blue as yours either, but she lays like crazy, so she is on my happy list

A month ago the father was the sizzle that died. More recently the father is the partridge sizzle that I hatched and lived with cynthia for a bit. He is really a pretty boy.

I just want to throw in that Sundance's little hen, Ruby, might look scruffy, but she has a heart of gold. I have been over there before and had Ruby want to be picked up and carried around. She is a sweet chicken.

Well, we did it. My mom and I got a chick from Cal Ranch to keep the new Icelandic company. The Icee has been dubbed Poppy, courtesy of my brother. Her new buddy, a BSL with the cutest red face, has been named Pixie by my mom. They both got some water tonight from a dropper, and Poppy got a little dose of baby vitamins to help, since I don't know if she's eating or drinking yet. Her bum was getting plugged, so I got to play cleanup tonight. She made a great poop not long afterward, which is reassuring to me

Who would have ever thought that I'd be happy about poo?

Okay, I remember that someone earlier was saying that my experiences with hatching have made them hesitant to try their hand at it. I need to say, keep in mind that many people have had great hatches, and some hatch all the time. I just seem to be one of those folks who aren't very good at hatching, and I need practice. ............. I just probably won't practice for a while, is all. Once this current batch of Icee eggs are done, I'm cleaning out the incubator and putting that thing in storage for a while.

Oh, Birdman - Any chance I could get another spring of mint from you? I finally got some flower pots to start my herbs in

I candled my eggs. There WERE a lot in there. You know what I am going to say right?

Soooooo many are duds. So many. i took out 32 eggs. Yes. There are hardly any left in there to hatch. So all those fun Marans and all those other fun breeds.?? nevermind. Just nevermind. There are 8 eggs in one bator and 6 in another. And some of those look iffy at best. There are maybe 4 I could see moving total. And most of the ones that are doing good are not the breeds I wanted to keep. Poo.

Most of the chickens I have to keep were from the chick order I got (7) , my hatches of the breeds I really really wanted have been mostly a bust. So if I figure out what it cost me to get the 4 hatched chicks I am keeping, it is a ridiculous amount per chicken...oh it is not good at all.!
I am so bummed out right now. I wish I would not have looked at those eggs, it was way too depressing

I think I should stick to chick orders next year. Even with all the mistaken roosters they sent me the cost per chicken makes more sense.

Thanks, the splash is the mother to a lot of the chicks everyone is hatching from my blue eggs

Oh man, I hope one of those is a splash from one of those blue eggs. I had to throw out of eggs that were not fertile. Very clear. But I still have 8 colored eggs..4 blue, 4 mint green, and 2 that look to be the first generation Olive Egg color.
And, one of the teensy eggs is developing. So far so good. This is further than the other two made it last time that started. Two of the med sized ones are going good, then there's two of the larger small..ahem..make sense..eggs that are developing. I should get something. I can't imagine how small that teeny one will be if it hatches. Well, I guess, about as big a button quail. I've hatched those in the past. They are tiny. I hope this little one makes it.

Red- thank you for the advice. I have emailed that info to her. Hopefully we can figure it out. When I called, she said it looked like the hen was trying to throwing straw onto her back??? Odd.

New addition born today. New bull that my boys named Orion.
He is Scottish Highlander/Blonde d'Aquitaine
Still waiting on the other mommy to calf, will be the same mix.
These live at Wheeler Farm right now.

Holy Cow Beautifulness! Those are just gorgeous big cows. ) That baby is darling. Born big. Great name!

I put 36 Australorp eggs in 13 days ago. I have tossed 8. So, 28 very viable Australorps. Anyone want another Australorp?
Arivis?? LOL..how are your chickens laying? My Australorp is on the ball! She lays almost every day. Love her sweet face. I call her Sissy.
