Utah!

Pancake, fun flock! I LOVE NN. A black one would be so pretty! i would love to see that one for sure. The site lets you post videos but sometimes they don't work. Red has posted links to her you tube videos that work splendidly with just a click :)

Welcome Syracuse Dan!

Red, I know how you feel too. It is hard to figure it out. I think mostly , in the beginning, it is just hard to remember to check the darn thing on a consistent basis. After doing it for awhile, a clock seems to go off in my head that I need to turn and check the eggs. "Sun comes out? Go check the eggs. Clouds come out, house feels chilly? Go check the eggs." It goes like that in my head now--before it was "been four days? go check the eggs." At first I just kept forgetting for hours, even days then when I would check, the temp would be wrong. It still happens at times, but the more I remember to check on them, the better they seem to do, the less fluctuation in humidity and temp the better. I feel bad it has not gone well, it might just be your bator too, or your thermometer might just be off a degree, that is all it takes. My first one was off 1.6 degrees. Second one was off 2 degrees. I then bought 4 different ones, and three of them said within .1 degree the same thing, another was 6 degrees off, so I kept the three that were the same, and it has been lots better. Ridiculous they can't get thermometers to be a little more accurate.?!

Oh, Pan wonders, what is so funny about me being able to have roosters? (there are only a few of us here that would love to drop a few off every now and again)

Anyway, we now also know someone else with fertile eggs!!

Fertile Eggs are a good thing~! Roosters, are a good thing~! Those hens need to get down to business :smack
I am having issues with 3 of my FBCM. Not laying at all. I sold one, her eggs were really light...and the two that are left are being LAZY! I have gotten 3 eggs from one in 2 weeks, and none from the other one in a few weeks. Not molting, not broody, just lounging in the dust bath. Stinkers. Whoever is not laying by the first week in April is on the naughty list.

I visited my sis-in-law today and this is one of her Buff Orps. She says they have been acting "nutty" and nervous since late fall and a few look like this- this one is the worst. They laid more in the dead of winter than they are now. her flock is all 1 yr old this spring. Is this just Molt??

Whoa. Cyndi, does she have any roos with her hens? If not, this could either be a feather picking issue, or she may want to check them for lice/mites. My BO has the same problem, thanks to my dumb boys.

Big HELLO to everyone!!! I'm back!!!

So much to tell. My re-homing of the flock turned into a nightmare of the greatest proportions, but which brought my babies back home and safe!!

Those 'wonderful, caring' people who offered to buy the entire breeding program flocks turned out to be newbie cock fighters.... a chicken owner (lovers) worst nightmare!!!

They were all returned, finally, with the poor hens looking as if they hadn't been fed or watered the entire time (2 were so weak they couldn't walk and I lost one later that night!!)

The roos were obviously getting prepared for razor spurs, but their feathers will grow back. Luckily, it was discovered BEFORE anything actually occurred!! WHEW!!

The husband has realized they are my babies, not just a hobby or business. When I was the one who mentioned divorce, he back pedaled, and even mentioned where we could find some white peafowl to go with my India Blues!!

More runs are going up to accommodate more poultry!!

Oh, happy day!!!

Desert, I am dang glad to hear that, though I think you're man might deserve a bit of a slapping for putting you through that. I totally get taking up for one's children, since my boys are the center of my universe (don't tell the chickens!), but when they grow up, they get no say in how I run my household unless they start paying the mortgage and all the bills. Just my opinion, of course, and not worth a lot since I've never been married and don't intend to ever hit that road.

And cock fighting? Seriously? People, join the current century where we attempt to display at least a modicum of civility!! Sheesh.
