OMGoodness Sasha, I cannot believe the same luck for you with another batch of those crele wyandottes! That batch we tried to hatch made me wonder, because so many did not even start to develop. At least with crappy shipped eggs some USUALLY start, then fizzle out...but to have so many clear makes you wonder. I would be mad too. I would take the free eggs because...just because....but hope rather than expect one or two to hatch. They have got to have fertility problems? Another expensive chick for you if you can get the one to hatch. Crossies

The colors of bantams you hatch--makes me soooo envious/ I am not a bantam fan, but if anybody could ever convert me it would be you. Beautiful babies you have, really pretty pics you have posted.

I also am going to SLC on Saturday if there is a chicken train needed. The only chickens I have to sell is 1) a teenager that is 5-7 weeks old, an EE ( pullet I am pretty sure) ,. pretty orange/red body with lots of blue down, blue tips on the wings and tail, and a dark red head, really pretty. She is going to be beautiful but she does not get along with the group I have her with. I am not going to jump through the hoops to make it work, i have quite a few chicks so she can go to anyone on here that may be interested. Her mom is "Sparkles" an EE from Blujems that lays a big green egg, her daddy is a Blue wheaten Rooster that came from blue egg and she has a peaccomb so could lay blue or green. 2) The other one I have is a BIG BR chick from McMurray, 6 weeks old, looks boyish to me, but it was sexed female...I can post pics if anyone wants to see or may want to take either, going to Hogle Zoo and can meet at the gate at noonish. Putting them on KSL: tomorrow.

Will be hatching my Brahmas' babies this year... Makes me a bit scared... This is my first time breeding my own too... Is a broody hen safer? ^^'

Ugh, seems like all I have time to do lately is pop on here and maybe drop a short note, then run off. So much going on and lots of family drama the last few weeks. My mother (who lives in Arkansas with my previously mentioned Uncle) has been in and out of the hospital the past few weeks and eventually ended up with 3 stents placed via cardiac cath. While she was in there, my Uncle had a syncopal episode and ended up in the ICU about 1 1/2 weeks ago. They found intestinal cancer which had spread to the liver. Ended up going to surgery where they did a colostomy, but he did not recover well and passed away yesterday morning. So now my mother is extremely distraught (she's been taking care of him for 7 years. He's 12 years older than her) and having chest pain episodes again. Throw all that on top of working almost every night and things have been crazy.

On the chicken front, I now have something like 60 little chicks running about. About half of them are BLRW's, mostly from my own flock. Then there are Joel's Welsummers, which are thriving, and the Cream Legbars and Isbars. I have about 60 more eggs in lockdown now, but I have no idea what might hatch, since I didn't have time to candle any of them prior to lockdown and can't even remember if I candled them at all for the whole incubation! I'm hoping nothing explodes in there. They should be due to hatch tomorrow.

My Isbar that got the skin ripped off the back of her nexk is doind well and getting incredibly spoiled. I put a small coop in the back of the garage to keep her away from the other hens and keep her relatively warm and sheltered. Now, everytime I open the garage door, she start going "Bok! Bok! Bok!" for treats and running back and forth. I've been giving her dried mealworms every morning when I get home and I think the boys have been sneaking her some of that as well as kale and strawberring. We seem to have created a monster who is rapidly heading for chicken obesity. Her name is now officially BokBok.

I've still managed to make it up to the land at least once a week, though they have been day trips lately due to time constrictions and the weather (what was with the freaking arctic wind??). Everyone up there is doing well. My roommates are going up this weekend and I'm going up again Monday if nothing more crazy happens. Oh wait, scratch that. I just found out I have to work Monday night, so I guess we will go up Tuesday afternoon for a few hours. The boys aren't going to like that.

Anyway, that's all the major news on this end.

Hope you have a great hatch! You are definitely rocking it better than me lately. Should have just hatched your eggs instead, they did great for me last year! LOL they are like popcorn.

Sorry to hear about all the drama, I hope your family get through everything ok!

To everyone who has lost an Uncle/loved one, I am truly sorry.

Lisa, that's horrible about your eggs! I feel your pain. I am down to 1 Crele Wyandotte that is in lockdown, due to hatch Saturday. It had BETTER hatch and it had BETTER be a girl. I only had about 6 eggs out of 30 that were even fertile. Makes me so mad! I sent a nasty email to the breeder...this same breeder that we got 32 eggs from the first time and only 3 hatched...30 eggs this time and only 1 made it to lock down. She swears nobody else has any problem with her eggs. I'm doubtful. I'm hatching other shipped eggs left and right without any problem, well over 50%. She offered to send me a dozen free of charge. Do I do it? Part of me wants to say yes, the other part doesn't want to get disappointed again.

I had 3 of my own eggs hatch this morning. Had thrown them into the bator, just because I didn't have any eggs due to go into the bator for a couple days....yeah, I'm a hatch-a-holic. So I have 2 cute Calico cochins and 1 red cochin/crele wyandotte cross. Saturday the 1 Wyan egg is due, along with some mottled and blue mille fleur bantam cochin eggs.

Desert Springs-I'm so glad you get to keep your critters! I hope everything works out OK.

Sundance-the adoption day sounds like fun. Is your friend Melissa with the Aussies, the same Melissa from Moonbaby Mini Australian Shepherds?

Yes Melissa is the same Melissa with Moonbaby. She was thrilled with the cochins and we want the calicos from you. I would take the free eggs and hatch them. After all they are free. We really enjoyed meeting you and your hubby. Next time perhaps we can all go to dinner.

Are eggs really that difficult to hatch that you might only have a 10% success rate? I imagine it depends on breed?

I have decided to help assist my NN's. They were clearly early, but, there was so much of that stuff..that I call gobbleldy goop, and, the air sacs ran waay up the sides. So, two were gone, one died after I assisted, it was way tiny, and a whole lot of yolk, don't think it would have made it, when I opened it, that stuff just spilled out. I wonder why the white doesn't go away during incubation. Anyone ever see that stuff? It's what they will drown on if it is present at hatch time, which, I could see it wriggling around when I candled before lock down on most of these eggs. Anyway, I have 6 babies hanging out. We'll see how many will make it. Pretty cute, white with black on the head and around the eyes. One looks pure white, but can't see the body yet. One is pure black, and I don't think it's a NN. It will probably be tomorrow before I see them start to see real action from them. Two did have their beaks up, but very far away from the shell..because of those crazy air sacs. I don't usually do this, but will when the air sacs are like this, and I just take a chance. I find that I get at least a couple out of them instead of going in after the due dates, just to find dead chicks. Not kidding when I say the air sacs were almost to the top of the pointy end on one side, and almost the same on the other side. All of them! Crazy how so many eggs have come like that this year. They just can't move around when they are that bad.
Having said that, my Australorp eggs air sacs are beautiful, I think there may be one that has a sac that is high on the side, but not that bad.
The ones from sundance that were viable are still doing well, and of course the air sacs are good on those.
I had a lady bring me eggs! lol..could I say no? Of course those air sacs will be fine. They are lavender Orpingtons and EE's. some more real pretty blue eggs, and a chance of a splash. She says that most of them are hatching splash.

No orange in them, or browns, but the grey splash.
