If you find a coop you like give me the plans(or pictures), you buy the material, and i will build it for a small fee. Its way cheaper then buying one. Im really good at finding used material that can be recycled for dirt cheap. i work in the finish end of home construction and have a lots of ideas to save money.

I'm running down to IFA today to look over the coop I saw out in the parking lot. If it doesn't pan out then I will definitely contact you about getting a quote. Thanks!

Want some chicks? LOL

It's always nice to meet someone who knows the local area. I may be picking your brain. And, I may want a chick (or two). I'm worried that the Partridge Rock we got is not going to be a hen after all. S/He has a substantial comb growing in and is not quite 3 weeks old. S/He has also grown bigger and is feistier than the other chicks. I don't know...I'm not familiar with any breeds of chicken since these are my first. Maybe the PR just grows that way. I figured I'd check on that while I was down at IFA, since they assured me that all their chicks were females.

Donna, Sphinx, you know I am loving you both for offering FBCM's to me lol BUT I better wait til next spring to add to this rapidly growing herd I have here. That is one breed I def want a few more of, I sold one of my FBCM because her eggs were really light, so will have to get another one, but at the moment I am displaying will power against any more chickies. Lol! I have to behave myself now.

Sphinx, enjoy your movie! Me and my DD have been waiting forever for that one to come out, can't wait!

Sometime in the night, I think I had that FBCM egg hatch, as well as one more legbar, so I believe I have four out now- the OE, 2 legbar, and FBCM. Not totally sure though. I figure I can go to the school in about an hour and transfer everyone over. Can't wait!

Lisa, that FBCM came from the bcm I hatched at the preschool last year, and the bcm rooster that I got from Sundance. They're both beautiful birds. If I can make the bird train work with Corvidae, I definitely will. I'm supposed to go to Salt Lake on Friday evening to watch IronMan 3. movie starts around 7 I think, so I could pick it up afterwards. But, you're probably leaving Friday for chickenstock, so probably no bueno.

So I'm totally new, what is a FBCM, and BCM?

Sorry! FBCM and BCM are basically the same, at least I use them interchangeably. It's a breed of chicken- French Black Copper Marans.

So, as of now, I have 5 eggs out- the FBCM, the olive egger, and three legbars. Of the legbars, I got two pullets and a cockerel. The olive egger chick is a beautiful gray color, with a white spot on the head. I wonder if that means it's a cockerel?




There's two legbar eggs left in the incubator. One is pecking away at its' pip. I suspect the other passed away without pipping. I tapped on the egg, and when alive, I've always gotten a chirp in response at this point. I'll leave it a bit, but I'm not optimistic.

You need to get Sphinx on this. She is really good at it. 5 and 6 look like boys to me both, even though one is more red. The others, no obvious boys yet IMO.

Ugh! My Japanese got squashed last night and I lost her

I thought about bringing her in last night due to the cold snap and her small size...but she seemed great at bedtime so I decided not to. Looks like some of the juveniles piled into one of the nests to snuggle last night and she was on the bottom. Oh man she is just flat. I feel so bad for her. She is so much tinier than the juveniles, even though she is almost 3 months old, and they are 6 through 8 weeks. Poor baby! It just broke my heart when I went out to check on them this morning and saw her like that

Oh man, in typical Syracuse Dan fashion I choose the hard way...

I bought an incubator and received 26 Muscovy duck eggs in the mail over the weekend. Nothing like picking the hard ones first.

Does anyone have any experience with Muscovy's?
