Utah!

I have been missing for a while. Crazy month of graduations, Eagle courts, mission preparation, senior trip, and on and on........
I got on today hoping maybe someone would know someone who could help me. I would like to adopt a lab puppy for my daughter. We are looking for a yellow lab, preferably male. We have rescued all older labs from the shelters and thought it would be easy to find a litter looking for a home- NOPE- everyone is asking $400-$600
Our oldest Lab is on his last days and my kids have really earned the right to finally raise a puppy.
Does anyone know of someone who isn't a breeder that has labs?
Thanks everybody!!

Oh and my oldest OE, began laying dark russet colored eggs....What????

Did you check with the Provo Animal Shelter. I used to see labs in there often! They may have a young one or two in there. They are great dogs..like my Golden Retrievers. :)

How is your son? Our boy is busy! He's District Leader now, is training again, and opening a new area. What? We were a bit worried about all of that. Sounds like he is doing ok. The Lord wouldn't ask it of him if He didn't think he could do it, right? :)

Eagle courts ey? :D

So much to comment on! I'll do my best, but I'm going to be brief.

Desert, eek! Poor Chico. And poor hubby! You stay on his case about that finger! It seems like some people just don't know when to quit and rest so that they can heal. And I'm very glad that the Icee's hatched out early for you so that you didn't have problems with them and the power.

Looks like a lot of us are getting some pretty chicks

Congrats to all with new babies!

Karen, wear eye protection and keep your fingers clear of moving parts

Just play it safe and you'll do fine.

We have some new neighbors on the one side of us. I was talking to them last night and found that they want to get chickens. And, one of the guys at work got chicks a couple of weeks ago and is loving them. The madness is spreading

Hi Red

Know the feeling... I was off for two days and came back to over twenty posts.

Chico is looking better. Changed the dressings again this morning and he's healing fast. Of course, when he sees the halter, he thinks that means to go see the girls. LOL... nothing sexy about a limping three legged stud.

I agree Karen, listen to Red... that was the first thing I thought of!!

So glad about the neighbors attitude... and yes, spreading

I'm taking a little trip this weekend. We are taking our motorhome to vernal for the weekend.to visit my son. He is a PHD in pharmacy and runs the pharmacy at the vernal hospital. I want to see how I traavel because I really want to take a vacation. This will be fun for me as I have been pretty much house bound. My neighbor came over and asked if he could take care of the chickens. He says he watches them from his porch and wants to spend more time with them, We're taking the dogs and cats with us so he will just have to feed and water the chickens and gather the eggs. I told him he could keep the eggs and he was excited. hes 78 and says her's bored. If I do ok then next weekend we will leave and go to mount rushmore for a week
Hoping your trip goes well!! Don't overdo it.

Prayers for those in Cobb county GA! That's where our son is..they are looking at tornado possibilities there until 10:00 tonight. Atlanta area also.
When does all the tragedy end this year?? Prayers sent!!

Hello fellow Utahns. I'm fairly new to chickens, only had them for about a year now but just barely caught the chicken fever. I have a mutt rooster, 2 mutt hens, 2 white rock hens, 4 EE pullets, 1 Dominique pullet, 2 Barred rock pullets, 1 black sex link pullet, 1 black cockerel (unsure of breed, son's class hatched him) 1 BO cockerel, 1 BO pullet, 2 cuckoo matan pullets AND 3 ducks, one is a pekin but unsure of the others. *Deep breath* I think I have a problem.
LOL... you haven't learned chicken math yet. You don't have to count anything that doesn't lay yet. And on the mutts... lets get a ruling from the others.

I'm thinking you only have 2 hens, 2 cockerels and 3 ducks. That's not bad!!

Can't help you on the puppy but russett colored eggs?? Cool!!

Just had a perfect hatch last night!!!
yesss.gif

4 Wels and 6 AMs .... the AMs look to be 1 splash, 1 white and 4 blues.

Of course, these little cuties are the Icelandic from the other day.

These four beauties are the hatching from the Wheaten AM eggs brought back from Chickenstock the first weekend of May.

And Ta-Da...the new Wel and AM babies in with the Icelandics.

Thirteen pairs of feet in there!!

Question: the 3 last AMs had to be helped out. They were covered with syrupy fluid that had the membrane drying to them, like glue. If I hadn't helped they would have stayed stuck and would have passed. What is that sticky fluid and why does it happen.... how can I prevent it. The rest of the hatch was fine.

Desert, I'm liking this idea, so that means I can get two more white egg layers right? I'm going to be over run by colored eggs and NEED the white ones to enhance those colors right?

I wish I knew the answer to that. I call it goop. I get goop every other hatch or so and it is gross and they drowned if I do not help them out. I HATE helping them out. For every two or three I save I lose one. I know I get more to hatch than leaving them, but I hate feeling like I killed one at the same time. Awful.

I always thought somehow it seemed to be connected to humidity. But really no idea. If anyone knows how to prevent this I would be so happy to know what to do different.
Congrats on a great hatch, and all those cute babies!

I have missed so much on here, been a busy week camping...maybe I can catch up tonight :D
