Tonight, while closing up the coops, I went over to close the last coop. The cluck clucks have been throwing fits the last couple night so I have been turning off their lights when I close them up. Tonight was no exception!! However, tonight, before I got there, a baby skunk came waddling out.

So small it could fit in your palm. As I backed off for some distance, the little fart crawled underneath the end of the coop

At that same time I heard screeching from the cat shed.

This is a shed we have for the outside cats, to get in from the weather, and also from the predators at night, as we close the door after dusk. I have just recently taken a board from a high window and placed wooden stairs underneath so the cats can come and go at their will. As I looked in, expecting the neighbor's black cat to be picking a fight with my old Siamese, as is usually the case each night... I huge raccoon was in there, lunching out on the cat food, with my old cat challenging it. Fearing for my cat, I desperately tried to get the door open. As Jasmine starts swatting the raccoon, it realizes I'm there.... don't think I've ever moved so fast getting out of the way, as that raccoon came flying out of the window....sheesh!!

Guess I'm gonna have to set the traps.... just hate having to do that. They are humane traps but still....

Thanks! I met with that rescue yesterday, They are wonderful, going to meet Schooner & Kodiak on Mon :) They think the mom might be a Blackmouth Cur/Shepard mix. The Cur makes me nervous... They also has Great Pyrenese pups rescued that are almost ready- I'm great with the size but worried about the barking. Our son leaves July 10th, so glad your boy is progressing well, sounds wonderful. I will be traveling to Savannah, GA next April. So close to both of our sons! Thank you for checking for me, how kind of you! I will pm you if we need the info

SO......if my OE is laying a brown egg, is it a done deal? Brown eggs from her for good? Any chance she will ever lay olive or am I waiting for my next OE to get old enough to lay?
my brother has a great pyrenese and she is a fantastic dog. i like her barking so much more than other dogs because its a low bark. i am super sensitive to sounds and her bark does not bother me at all so that is saying something. his will sometime think she is a lap dog lol. but she is a super fun dog. she is good at scaring the door to door salesmen too. she is so calm. she goes shooting with us and loves it. as you know they are also used to guard live stock. i think birdguy has one? my brothers is very good with all animals and just loves to cuddle with their cats. his will wonder around the house at night and maybe growl if she hears a noise but does not bark much but my bro wants her to bark if there is danger so he can check it out. she is a great security system :) if i was looking for another dog i would get one

You have a GP? I love them! Had a neighbor that had three of them, he rescued them when he was here..moved to California. They are very sweet and gentle dogs.
A dog that won't bark hardly at all..the Golden Retriever. I've had three now. My Miss will bark when you bring her food to her..she's talks to you in a low voice..too cute. She won't just bark at anything. My Shcnoodle on the other hand! When the door bell rings..oh dear.

What a lot of tumult at your place all in one night!!!

Hope using the traps helps you de-wild things as smoothly as possible.

Okay... I know this is going to sound so stupid...But, I'm so excited for the girls to wake up tomorrow, and adventure out of the run/coop. Tonight after they all went to bed, I put down almost 30 ft by 20 ft of sod in their outside run.
ya.gif
Almost 3 hours later, and I still have almost 300 square feet left of sod to put down, so I will have to do that tomorrow when they are running around. I got too tired loosing all the dirt and hauling the sod into the backyard. I got it FREE off KSL today, a whole pallet for FREE. It was cut yesterday from the sod farm, so it looks beautiful. I just hope they don't kill it off before it grows, if not they will have to stay in the run, or on the other side of the fence in the free range. Its such a huge area, still have about 20 ft by 20 ft of dirt in the run, and they have their free range area most of the day, they should hopefully not dig it all up. At least its pretty long right now. The whole area looks so different, its always just been dirt for the last 8 years that we have lived here, and we kept saying, one day we will sod it, well I guess the girls finally motivated me to finally do it.

Congrats on getting the sod, & getting it laid down--I hear that's a very tiring task. So nice to have things you've wanted for a long time! And free is wonderful!

How did the girls like it??

They seem to love it, but now they are out in the free range, so when I lock them back up later in the outside run, they should be much happier then with all the dirt.

I just went out and finished the rest. I do have to say it was much better doing it last night in the dark, wasn't as hot. I'm worn out. Decided to put some in the grow out pen, and the babies, are terrified of it. They are all sitting in the coop like there is an alien in their run. The older girls are totally loving it. They are out there right now sun bathing in the grass. Just feel bad that I'm about to go kick on the sprinklers to water it. They will have to go in the coop/run for a few while it gets wet.

I have a beautiful Blue Laced Red Wyondotte. Pretty sure it's looking like a boy. He will be the splash kind. I didn't realize their was a difference! I always just called them all that. Some have the more red and white going on, that's the splash. Some have the more blue going on. The dark blue is what I got more of this time.
Silly, I think I have a girl for you. No promises, but it looks like I have two boys and two girls in the darks..so, I guess I also have a dark blue boy too. Here are pictures of when they were little, and I sent them to the person I bought them from, that's when I found out the difference between the color names. They said, the dark ones will be the dark blues, and it looks like I got two splashes. :) First, photos of them a couple of days ago. I had a little tiny tot I worked with for a couple of days..and it didn't make it. :(

Here are a few pictures of the boy that will be lighter..there is also a dark blue one that I
didn't get a close up of..he's in there somewhere, the dark ones all look alike.

Had to show, he has blue on his chest too. Going to be handsome!

They are so adorable. Yes, please let me know if your going to sell off a girl. I would love to have one. Your 3 girls are experiencing grass for the first time today, and they are loving it. The little JB has been rolling in it for almost an hour now, sun bathing, so very glad I got all that sod yesterday. Its so dang cute. I wish my camera battery would hurry up and charge so I can get some photos of the happy girls.

my brother is the one that has one. he has his own house but i do spend a lot of time there and he brings his dog over often. his wife came across the dog and rescued her, she was regularly beat by some guy so she is a little nervous around men but as she gets to know you she turns into the sweetest dog ever
