Utah!

So I got some chicks from sunnybrookfarms and on the way home I noticed they were sneezing and have a runny nose. Has anyone else had chicks from that place that were sick? And what's the best stuff to use on chicks/chickens to get rid of the sneezing? Really new at this and don't want to see any of my chickens suffer. I'm just worried that all my other chickens will get it, even though the sick ones are quarantined. Any help would be MUCH appreciated:)
Brian,
So very sorry to hear that!!

Christie Brown usually has really healthy chicks but I too had some problems with the last batch. She has some workers who have Coryza going around their own personal coops. She and they are treating with Sulfamethoxine (sp?). I still have 5 in my leper colony that aren't getting near ANYTHING else I have. I've run them through the Denegard protocol and it didn't help, so now they're on the Sulfamethoxine which finally seems to be working. Luckily, I have started vaccinating all chicks with Newcastle Bronchitis and have Coryza vaccine on hand to do at 8 weeks of age.

Unfortunately I only had a survival rate of 50%.

Sara, my BO looks like that right now. She started losing feathers from too much attention from the boys, but now I think the other hens pick at her. My mom is going to make a smaller apron for her, since she's a little girl. Today, we slathered aloe vera all over her exposed skin. It seemed tender, but she enjoyed it. We are concerned about her.

Well, I don't remember if I mentioned this last night or not, but I was talking to the new neighbors and found out that one of my Icelandics, "Psycho" Summer, actually chased my neighbor the other day

She's all 1.5 lbs of fury, that one. And my neighbor also told me an interesting story. I guess when they were moving in on Saturday, they left the door open for a few hours while moving things inside the house. Weeeell, at one point my neighbor turned around, and there was one of my chickens standing in her front room.

I just shut my eyes and asked, "Was it the black and white striped one?"

Yes, it was. That would be my BR/Dominique mix, Dottie. She has ventured into our kitchen before. I guess she really doesn't care whose house it is, so long as she gets to visit.

Other than that, I got some work done on the pens out back. I pulled the sagging boards off of our run, flipped them over, and then put roofing material over them to keep the wet out. I started to work on my smaller run, too, but I ran out of nails in the nail gun. How d'ya like that? Phoo..............And I had to chase the turkey poults out of the neighbor's yard and through our wooden fence. Little squirts had gotten themselves stuck over there and the hen was freaking out.

Oh Red, your poor little BO

. Mine need aprons made too, along with some of my BA and Dels... have been trying to find time to do so.

In my mind I can just see your Dottie looking around wondering what's up? LOL Guess your neighbor is getting a crash course on your cluck clucks personalities

Wow, you've been busy!!!

Just think of all the time we'd have on our hands if we didn't have chickens.

So I took some photo's of the lovely ladies outside enjoying their new sod. My husband thinks I'm nuts that I'm outside taking photo's of the chickens. He thinks I've gone mental. HAHAHA!

I just love my Houdan, I'm really glad I kept her, and she really is stupid. But I think its because she can't see. She screams all day long looking for her friends. But now since she's used to being handled, she's like a lap dog. She loves to be held, she snuggles right into you.

Here are the not so little babies in the grow out run. I just need to get wire up on the chain link and they are getting set free this week.

ya I'm hoping I can get them to feel better. I feel bad for the little girls. I don't have them around my other hens because I don't want them to catch whatever it is the new chicks have. I've heard a lot of good things about sunnybrook that's why I went there not to mention she had a few breeds I've been wanting. She was very nice and was helpful but a little hesitant buying from there again in the future:( I will see what I can do to make them feel better and hopefully be able to post good news. They are eating and drinking water but don't really have much energy. I hope its not too late.

I got 4 chicks from her in Apr. and I love them. Never had an issue with them at all. Sorry to hear that you had bad luck. Did you call her and tell her? Maybe she didn't know, because I really don't think she is the type of person that would sell someone sick chicks.

What did you end up getting and how old are they. I hope they pull through for your. Good luck.

oh my I love the one that's speckled and has the ring of black around its eye. You have cute chicks! Loved your little flock when I went over there to get the cochin (which btw she is a little brat hahaha) I love her though. She will actually come to me now. Yay:)

Sorry, she was so sweet here. Did you notice the SOD, I put down Sod in the whole back run except under the tree. Totally looks different now, I love it. I just hope the sod takes since it doesn't get that much sun.

The one with the ring around her eye and the double Comb is a Silician Buttercup, I got her from Cynthia. Isn't she neat.

Posting a couple of different photos of what the buttercup can look like...this first one doesn't have the distinct separation as the second photo.I think yours is going to have a great separated coloring going on.

This one not that great, but still, very pretty.
