Utah!

Piggy is up and about! Whew, she came to the door with her tail up and she was perky. She's a little stink for scaring me like that.
I am so very happy for you!!!

Sadly, even though my water was running over the end of the chicken runs, I lost two today

. One was even in my air conditioned shed; the air conditioners just couldn't keep it cool enough. I thought it was me that thought it was so hot!!! In another coop the air conditioner flat out quit!!! I didn't know it until too late

They were two of my favorites and I'm especially heartbroken over the one . Hate this heat!!!!!

Ha! I am officially off work for the net 3 weeks! AND, today is my youngest son's birthday! I have a surgery tomorrow (minor thing, no big deal) but I couldn't care less since I get to be home and NOT AT WORK for a while! Don't get me wrong--I love my job and love taking care of people, but these last few months have just about done me in. My mother is not in the hospital for a change and no one I know of is dying, so life is good.

Now down to business. :) I am overrun with chickens and after the surgery I won't be able to do anything about it for a while (no driving for a couple of weeks, I'm told). I really just want to give some of the little darlings away so the boys can focus on the ones we want to keep. There are still the 3 Cream Legbar girls, all of which are laying up for grabs. There's also a trio of BLRW--one black and 2 very dark dark blues (I think, kind of hard to tell, they are so dark. Those BLRWs are actually showing a lot of promise--their blueing would be a nice add in to a bedding group to intensify things.

Joel also has a bunch of Welsummers from Whitmore farms--I know Desert wants some of them, so if anyone is going up her way in the next few weeks, can anyone chicken train them? My roommates went up there today, but didn't tell me beforehand. :(

There are also a few very young cream Legbar boys and some equally young BLRW up for grabs--about a month old?

All of these are free for the taking if anyone wants to come pick them up. The Cream Legbar girls and Bokbok are, for some reason, the only chickens down here that are laying, despite my chicken salad threats. Don't know what's up with the others, but I'm guessing it's something about the heat.

I'll try to check in here whenever I can, but I'll likely be kind of out of commission for a bit. Lisa has my phone number if anyone needs it (or do you still have it, Lisa?) and knows where I live. The boys are okay to show anyone the chickens that wants to see them if you drop by. Come one, come all, and save me from being buried in chickens!

Desert, I'm sorry you've had some heat casualties

It makes me worry for my birds, even with all of the shade and water they're getting.

Corvidae, I hope your surgery goes well. That's great that you have a few weeks to sit back and recover, though! Take it easy, okay? Sundance and I have talked about going on a field trip to visit Desert and her ranch at some point, so if we're headed that way, I'll let you know so that we can play chicken train.

So, I think I'm going to set up my field cam to see if anyone is coming over here and messing with my birds. I haven't had any more chicks or eggs disappear since last Monday, but I've been locking up the broodies and their babies, and I have had only one egg under the broody that's out in the coop. I'm going to talk to the neighbors and see if they've noticed anyone coming over here. It makes me sick that I've had chicks die and disappear, especially where they're not even mine - they're ones I'm babysitting!

I sure do :) We might come that way in the next couple weeks to pick up the NN from Brian, we were not able to get together yesterday. If I do, I would be glad to bring any back this way if someone wants any. I am trying really hard to resist the cream legbars. They are so cute!

Donna, best luck with your surgery! And glad you will have time to rest, finally :)

Help!

I was out taking care of my chickens today and I noticed two of my girls coughing. What do I do?

Corvidae, yay for time off! Good luck with your surgery.

Red, I hope no more bad luck comes your way.

I'm glad to hear your Mom is doing better

. I'm hoping someone is heading this way.... I'm about done in with chicken trains and trips. .If push comes to shove I'll come get them (bad room mates!!!

That would have saved me a trip and a fortune in gas). When are they coming this way again? BTW: Now that you're on, you didn't leave many chickens here. That or the heat has them indoors. Haven't seen anyone around your place however haven't been that way for about a week and a half. Got real busy around here with the heat and trying to keep my critters alive!!

Good luck on your surgery!!

Oh Red, I'm just crushed over them. They weren't very old.... one was about 3 months old and my little sweetheart and the other just 3 weeks but was doing well one minute then blam. The other one of that breed was breathing heavy and had it's eyes closed. I think I saved that one but still...

Both of them were in the shade and had plenty of water.

I think that's a great idea about the cam... then you would really know.

Just now I went out and quickly sprayed the chickens down in their runs.... the silver Ameraucana Blehm cockerel stood right in the stream and watched the water. Couldn't believe it!!!! I had to go in and rescue him. He had just stood there and must've breathed some in....ugh!!! Wrapped him in a towel and blow dried him. He's on WATCH now so that he doesn't get ill. Worse than children!!! I swear!!!

Oh man, THAT rooster has to be ok. It cost you a fortune! (with many several-hour trips in gas I figure he is a $100+ roo don't ya think?) At least. :p Not including the time traveling and taking off work... He was so hard to get... Crossing fingers he is ok. Sorry to hear you lost the others....hope they make it through the next couple days it looks so hot down your way!

Corvidae, good luck with your procedure tomorrow. Hope you heal up fast. I have your contact information as well, unless things have changed since March.

Desert, I'm so sorry that you lost a couple to the heat. What kinds were they?

Red, I want to go on the field trip to Desert's!!

Sara, I agree that Denegard is the way to go for that. Rumor has it I'm going to Springville to show houses tomorrow, so I could possibly sell you a bit of mine if you can meet me on my way down or back tomorrow. It can only be ordered on the internet, which is a huge pain.

Yesterday I got a full dozen eggs. That's the first time that's happened.
