Utah!

I got a number of these metal feeders from an old turkey farm. If anyone is interested I am selling them for $10. They have a little age on them but they are still in great shape.

Those are nice feeders. Hmmmm......

I found egg yolk on the roost, and all over the floor. The little stinks had themselves a nice treat this morning for sure. I know who did it. The black Olive Egger was sitting there last night. So, I am going to be getting a nice green egg soon. The other Olive Egger was right beside her, but, she shouldn't be ready for another 2 or 3 weeks. Pretty sure it's my black girl, and she is very pretty. One with the thick neck, nice beard. Hope she gets it right soon. :)

Thanks for the kind words, Desert and Red... :3 The support and some sleep cleared me up a bit (I was running on two hours of sleep... During the blackout I was watching the chick's every tiny move). Usually I wouldn't have done what I did but I was anxious, tired, and worried. It is indeed something I won't do next time, but for now I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong... I can't change the incubator, that I'm actually borrowing from my FFA chapter... But a 10% hatch each time just isn't right.

I want to avoid a 'power-outtage for 12 hours' nightmare again!

And I love mutts... LOL. That's why I loved this little Sizzle/Silkie. Never thought I would see one with white toes. X3
I'm a bit of a chicken genetics nut. I love it so much.
Unfortunately, no one likes mixes, boo. xD
I'm so weird.

Either way, despite my troubles, I refuse to be drawn away from breeding chickens. It's just not possible. I just need a few more Silkies and I'll get right into it again.
Unfortunately I had enough trouble finding my one... She was a gift from Wheeler Farm.
I'm really liking Sizzles though.
But I'm still Brahma-crazy. I can never ever have enough!

don't worry Pancake, i like mutts too, and with what i want to do, they would have to be mutts i think, Quiet roosters would definitely be easier that way...but i can't have any roosters where i live so my dream is on hold. good luck in the future. i got 3 silkie chicks with my broody that i don't know if i will keep and my broody is so fun to watch with them. i will let you know if I decide to re home them when they are a little older.

Hey would anyone be interested in Bantam RIR eggs. My little hen i got from Sundance has started laying again and my Bantam RIR Rooster has been breeding her for about a month.

For right now I'm just testing out how breeding chickens works... And making project plans. But I definitely want to breed chickens as a hobby when I get a little older. I might want to breed for show, but I LOVE messing with genetics. Seriously, I'm not even kidding. xD
When I get my own land, I definitely want to breed chickens. But I worry about getting another Sizzle rooster (after I turn 21 I can't keep him at Wheeler Farm anymore) and building up more breeding stock.

Unfortunately I would need laying pullets or hens, my time to breed this year is running out.
I'm not picky on the quality of the Silkies... And as I said other breeds might work well too.
But I'll keep that in mind anyways. c: You never know!

My little Brahma Einstein got to go to a welcome back thing for the people coming back from Pioneer Trek. She was really friendly with everyone, it was rather funny actually. Someone else actually told me they were considering doing the same thing... There are 4 other people in my neighborhood with chickens. XP

Oh dear! My Miss Piggy is NOT handling this heat today. She is just laying around, with her eyes closed. I saw her trying to adjust a very large crop. I picked her up and listened to her breathing, and felt her chest..no wheezing, no runny nose. I hope she doesn't have a compacted crop..or, it is just the heat. I put water under her wings and under her neck feathers, she just went to a shady area and layed there. :(

Cassandra, sorry to hear about your hatching sadness :( It happens, it is hard, but don't blame yourself!

We live on a dead end street, I know of 12 people here with chickens, which is half the houses, I think there are more at the other end that I don't know about though. Every once in awhile there is a random chicken walking along the road. It cracks me up.

I hope your Miss Piggy overcomes her problem

. It's just so frustrating when they look ill.
