Utah!

Don't freak to much on the airsacks, The two i had hatch had the worst airsacks they were moving everywhere.  But they hatched. I swear it was a miracle that they even hatched.

Same here. One of mine that hatched came from the worst looking egg.... Sounds like lots of us were working on these this summer! You see Cynthia, all the good luck has been saved up for you, the bad luck is all used up! :p Go babies go! I am so rooting for these. I won't have any SG fertile eggs for at least 2 more months and that is IF ( a BIG IF) any of these juvies are female. **sigh** Who knows!

Desert, I am soooo going Ameraucana shopping at your place next Spring! Sounds like the Baskin Robbins of Ameraucana flavors. It makes me crazy just to think about all those poofy cheeks in all those beautiful colors all in one place.

So off I go to bed to dream of poofy cheeks and little black bare necks. :) Why must little chickies be so dang adorable? Non poultry people are sooo missing out on all the fun.

Desert, your posts make me tired.

Red, going the Icelandic route seems smart. I couldn't do it- I love the rainbow basket. Do you want to meet up sat and give me 7 eggs to incubate? I'm going to Provo to a family reunion, but we could meet up on my way home, or you can come play at my house tomorrow night. Call or text me!

So. Blackout.
My eggs surely must be dead by now...
Brought my hen in, she's sitting on them... Sleeping rather...
But I bet not a single one will hatch out.
Gah. Of all the rotten luck...

Aww Red you have such lovely birds too..

Trying really hard not to feel like a flock stalker.

Desert--you need a vacation! lol!
Hey Casa..... yes, Red's birds are NICE!!!!!

Go ahead and stalk away...lol.

Yes, I do need a vacation!!

Not going to happen until the hatchery is running smoothly and I get everybody moved to the pens I want them in. That means moving A LOT of chickens. With that and the Newcastle and Coryza vaccinations (2 of each) I give, I stay super busy, not even counting the cleaning!!! LOL

At night I even dream about chickens.... the other night I dreamt I was in charge of filling the Easter Egg order for the entire world!!!!

I now have 10 different coops (some are sections in the trailer buildings but they have nice 20 foot long by minimum 3 to 5 foot wide runs. Wish I could let them free range but it's kinda hard to raise purebred if they're mixed. Hope to allow them free range by juggling them out when I get everything done.

Two days ago I fenced part of the neighbors veggie garden with T-posts and bird netting. Seems my 'garden safe' guineas have taken a liking to their tomatoes, or so I've heard. Those little buggers have the entire lane clean of grasshoppers and bugs.... I've only seen one and the neighbor has too. No bugs, even after straying farther and farther away. Geez, they have the whole desert to the west of us, clear to Starvation reservoir, and to the east of us to the Strawberry River yet they have to hit the neighbors toms.

Lol...I can't even imagine taking any time off yet, until winter. Still have so many plans. Just wish the DH would help a little. His daughters have convinced him that chickens are 'below' him...lol. Makes me laugh!!!!! I was raised in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the state and the parents even sent me to finishing school. They don't understand that I choose to be happy by raising chickens...hahaha.... people trying to keep up with the Jones' really make their life so much work, with no rewards. They never have enough. Kinda sad!!

DH thought he helped a little yesterday at the other property. While I was stretching fence and tying it to the T-posts and wood posts, out in the heat and glaring sun, he drove the tractor (which has an enclosed roof) around in circles for about ten minutes. Geez, thanks!!

Don't really know how that was supposed to help me, but he was pretty proud of himself. Now he can tell everyone he was working out there. Everyone will think he did the fence. Putz!!

Oh geez Casa, that means I need 31 different kinds of pure Ameraucana...lol

. Oh no!!! Hahaha.... I actually love the poofy faces on the whites the best!!!! Have 7 breeding whites for spring, 2 Blehm black, 1 Blehm silver, 1 wheaten splash, 1 blue splash, 4 wheatens, 3 blue wheatens, 1 lavender, and a ton of blues (hmmmm, hope I didn't leave anyone out).

Then there's my separate Aracauna flock and hybrid Ameraucanas..... more poofy faces!!!! LOL!!

My color assortment of Orps, luckily is smaller.... Blues, Blacks, Buff, Lav, Splash and Chocolates!! Love the chocs!!

Hi Sphinx,

LOL.... just be glad you're doing the reading and not actually here (I'd put you to work).

Well, although one chick survived the night, I messed up and the chick died. I don't want to say any more, I'm afraid of what you guys might think. I'm starting to really doubt my ability to hatch anything. I need sleep.

But... I like what came out of the chick. It was a Splash, but its toes were white. It was awesome.
So I'm going to keep my Sizzle and my Silkie... And sell my two remaining Brahmas.
Does... Anyone have Silkies they'd be willing to sell me? I don't care about the quality... I'll settle for any bantam though, the Sizzle isn't large breed-compatible.

I'm a bit affected my loss so I will likely disappear from the thread again, if anyone needs to contact me please email me or pm me. Thank you.

I'm so very sorry about your horrible hatch. I've never hatched anything, yet... and I'm sure when I finally do, it will be a disaster. I'm sure your next hatch will be much better, from reading everyone's hatch posts, it sounds like a learning curve. I pm'd you, I do have some Silkies that I'm going to be re-homing, only keeping 2.

Thank you. I appreciate it.

It has been a rather painful learning experience, yes, but it has taught me much, I'm learning. I just need to get over my guilt is all.
Hatching is fun and rewarding, I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong.

I'm discovering what path I'd like to take as a future chicken breeder. Sizzles are starting to interest me, but I don't know a whole lot about how they are bred.

Pancake, hatching is full of learning experiences. I hate that kind of way to learn and I have plenty of 'I won't do that again' experiences!!!!

You'll figure it out. The important thing is, you learned what NOT to do next time!!

No judgments, here. I've already screwed up my share of hatches, so I know how tough it can be. I'm sorry you lost your only chick

To date, I think I've tried to hatch several dozen eggs, at least. Some were under broodies, some were in the incubator. Of the ones that actually developed far enough to hatch (that I was trying to hatch for breeding) I've had one get killed, two that had problems and died, and one DIS. I have had a few mutt chicks survive longer than a few days, but since they're mutts, I can't do anything with them. And of course, they're all boys

By the by, if anyone is looking for cockerels (ha, ha) I have a few I need to rehome. One is an Icee/RIR mix, the other is an Icee/??? mix. They're a little more than two months old, I think. I'm going to be putting them on KSL at some point, here. I'm pretty sure that no one is going to watch a couple of mixed-breed roosters, but it's worth a try. I also have the EE cockerel that I got from Sundance a while ago, but I'm having a hard time letting him go. He's a friendly little fellow and is going to be beautiful when he's full grown.
