Utah!

Cynthia, I'm going to be in Spanish Fork on Monday. If you want to meet up with me, I'll give you a few crookneck squash. My zucchini, crookneck, spaghetti squash and pumpkins have been going CRAZY. My zucchini is looking a little wilty all of a sudden. i suspect there may have been shenanigans in my garden when we had a party over the weekend. It's starting to perk up though.

Brian, your nieces are so cute!

Red, I saw a national story on chicken owners taking them to the pound, but when they interviewed the shelters here, they said it hadn't been much of an issue at all. I have a friend who works for a rescue, and in her 18 months there, they've seen ONE chicken, and it was a rooster.

Sara, that is such a cute picture. I've noticed wyandottes tend to go red a little sooner than other breeds, so you may not need to worry just yet.

Sundance, with my picture, my point was that she's too stupid to brood- she's not even in a nest box, and when someone tried to throw her an egg to hatch, she didn't even sit on it. Silly girl.

BluJems, glad your goats did so well at the show. I'm not surprised. You have beautiful animals.

I am stealing this from someone on another thread:

God made incubators to hatch eggs, not to store dust, Just doing my part.

I want that on a T-shirt so when I go to the P.O. they can get a chuckle out of it. They probably think I'm a crazy chicken lady..wait, I am a crazy chicken lady!

Oh man please let there be lots of little white bearded babies in those!

They will all be white, no other color, she has mostly bearded, and according to them, the ratio is always more Showgirls than silkies..now, please be viable! Incubator..please work well. Me..do the right things. Power..stay on! Crossing fingers P.O. handled the box nice, the lady that got the box for us sure didn't! So many things can go wrong. Will set them in the morning, and then check for bullseyes on Sunday morning. :)

Just got a p.m. from the gal or guy..that sent the eggs. Said that they just sent 13 to a friend in Kansas a week ago, and that there was only one that had a blood ring, and the rest are doing great..so that says something about fertility. These eggs came from Nebraska.

good luck! I hope they all hatch for you. I so want to hatch some eggs, I think my 5 year old would love it. I might have to think about getting a smaller one, and take it to her Charter School in the Spring. She's going to an all day Kindergarten that is all about green and envirnoment. They even have their own garden that they use the vegs for the school. I should talk them into a chicken coop. hahahaha, I know that they use farm fresh eggs, people bring them in.

Hi everyone. Just a heads up tha the new Cal Ranch in American Fork has an offer of buy three bags of Nutrena feed, get one free and $4 off each Purina bag. It looks like it is going fast!

I did that yesterday, plus they sent in the mail $10.00 any $10.00 or more purchases. So I have 200 lbs of food that I got yesterday, and there wasn't much left when I was there yesterday.

I still keep saying to myself I need a dark red sex link and a barred rock chick too, but I'm not going anywhere near that store!

Red, they just want you to relive your childhood, didn't you ever want to have an Easter Egg hunt in the middle of July?

Here is a picture of it playing cowboy with its momma. Speaking of which, what do you guys think she is? I'm thinking a game hen of sorts, she is a mean little poo.

Actually, YES! Haha. I love egg hunts

Love the cute picture. She kind of looks like some kind of game hen, doesn't she? She's very pretty.

thanks for the help, my momma and her three silkie chicks are doing great. sorry i don't have a pic, my son got my camera again.....what is a good age to move them all back outside? i was thinking a week or two, is that right? or should i wait longer?

I've been letting my broodies and their babies outside while I'm home. The babies are all around a week old. They do alright, though I do monitor them to make sure that no mischief goes on with other animals or people. People may also be considered animals. Depends on the person, heh

We had lots of fun at the pygmy show. We got a reserve grand champion with our young buck and did well with the rest. Managed to sell everyone except the 2 we are keeping before we came home.
Aug. 2-3 is the fair goat show so you should come watch then. it will be lots of fun.

Woohoo!

Received my Showgirl/silkie eggs today. Hope I get some showgirls. Hope I get some to hatch period!

She put in extras that were getting a bit older, but she says, just in case. I hope they are good. :)

Cynthia, we can be hatch buddies! My replacement Icelandic eggs came today. I got 15, total, and Sphinx will be taking a few of them to try in her bator. The rest will be going under my OE, who is broody and likes to do raptor impressions when I open the coop. She'll be in her own carrier, though. I've had it with egg eaters. Anyway, tangent.

3:00 last night, I heard a chick pipping. I got all prepared.. But now, nothing. I am getting a little discouraged, but in good news, my friend wants to hatch out some red comet/Brahma crosses. Well, we will see how it goes, I guess...

Ah, give them some time. The babies seem to pip internally and then take their sweet time getting out. Others on here have far more experience than I do, but I have had babies take a couple of days before.

So, in other news, I may be downsizing my flock at some point in the future. As much as I love all of my girls, I want to get to where I'm keeping only Icelandics, or mostly Icelandics. I really want to focus on conserving them and getting my own line established. Just a forewarning for anyone on here that may want some of my birds, should they need to go. Desert already has dibs on my blue Ameraucana, though, since she has a breeding pen set up

I have no idea when I will start re-homing my girls, as I am just getting used to the idea right now. I will really miss having a rainbow basket of eggs. Not to mention all of the personalities.

I hear it every now and then. I hope there are more than one. I have my doubts though.
By the way, my two month old Brahmas seem to excite the one hatching... She/he will start pipping when it can hear them. Is that normal?

In some circles (cough cough) being the crazy chicken lady is a good thing! Looks like you're in the right place!
