Welcome to the Utah thread doodle!

Today is my sister's birthday so I surprised her with a "watermelon cake" with a whipped coconut cream cheese frosting, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi. It was delicious!

That cake looks to die for.... yum!!!!

Update: if I can have coops 50 feet from any human dwelling, I can have up to 25 chickens and roosters are "not recommended". Guess who's going around the property with a tape measure? The other rule is that they must be 25 feet from neighbors but only 15 birds permitted and roosters are prohibited. The lady said something to the effect of, "Roosters aren't recommended because you don't want us to have to come out there all the time from the noise complaints, do you?"

For now, I only need to get rid of the noisy boys

I believe so! The one house the guy wasn't sure if we were even 25 feet from. I just measured and it is 25 feet from the fence on that side! We have the one carport off of the garage...if all else fails, that is 50++ feet from everything. The scary thing is the rules specify front and back yard...for you and anyone else that has seen my house, I don't really have a front and back yard. Buildings are just kind of everywhere.
Than you!
I'd give 'em hell!!!! Put coops anywhere you think qualifies!!!! You may have to knock a hole in your house and move your front door, to change what your back yard and front yard are. I'll bring the sledge hammer!!! grrrr!!!!

:gig I am doing what I can. I may have to give up some birds but I will prevail. Working on a small business license and corporation documents as well as Right to Farm laws. My girls are ticked that I haven't let them out yet. They keep yelling at me :( I'll get it all sorted soon.

dOOdle!

I also have some eggs that will be interesting..Silkies, and Show Girls hopefully. I have an Olive Egger..meaning that she will lay Olive Colored eggs, and soon.
Must ask, can't remember if you said..can you have roosters? Many would like to know.

Lil! Yaay...so happy that things seem to be coming around. Sometimes you just have to find these things out for yourself, and not go by what someone said. Some folks just duck their head and go with what an onery person is saying. You have your rights. And love of animals.

Thanks everyone! Can have roosters but prefer hens. Interested in the eggs as well. Will respond more later...gotta run. Keep em coming :)

Brian.... I'm afloat with babies..... Welsummers, Barred Hollands and Black Australorps. Just saying...... Some were hatched 6/14 so they are older. When you're ready and if you want some let me know. Sadly, the Salmon Faverolle pullet that you wanted had a watering accident. I've decided to keep the cockerel and just bought a young Sal Fav hen so will have babies in the spring if you still want Salmon Favs, (they suddenly got real popular after I decided to keep them, and have had several people contacting me to purchase if I have them available...eh

[/quoteif you still have some after the 1st I will take some chicks from you. I appreciate it.

Just got a phone call that a fox got a hold of all the chickens and killed them All. Guess I am hunting after work.
Oh... my.... This is the most devastating news I've ever heard! How awful!!!!!!! So sorry! I lost one and was super depressed. I can't imagine losing a whole flock!

Finally some great news!!! I talked to the property manager and I got the house:)

haha! I bet all your neighbors are peeping out the window wondering what that lady is doing with a measuring stick and a kneaving smile....

... haha! well, good on ya'!

Oh, and good news! I got permission from my lovely wife to hatch again! But it will have to wait until spring... we have our first baby on the way, and the chicks would be way too much stress with a new baby, classes, a job, and heading up some clubs on campus! Olive Eggers... here we come! :)

Thank you everyone! You have been awesome and have been great people to vent to lol. I love crazy chicken people hahaha.

X2! And congrats on the house, Brian! You will be right close to sweet Cynthia, how fun. Just watch out, or she'll talk you into the most beautiful chicks you've ever seen, hahaha

Lisa, if you're allowed to have roosters, I'd say that's a pretty nice gesture of you to be putting them away at night to save your neighbors grief. most people just leave 'em out. I put mine away because I'm not supposed to have them, hehe

But I absolutely refuse to give up my boys. They are for breeding, not just to look pretty. And I love the sound of Dwight! What a gentleman! If I wasn't already devoted to the Icelandics, I'd be very tempted to get Houdans and work on establishing a flock.

Lil, I always think that it's bad form when neighbors turn you in for something without approaching you, first. If you don't know it's a problem, how are you supposed to deal with it?? I'm glad you found out that you have the space to keep your birds. Good night, some people are just never happy. I found out today that I have a number of neighbors that aren't happy that some of my chickens wander. Hmm, funny, because they all told me they were fine with it.

I don't get people. Insert rant here.

Hey, who on here keeps quail? I know Sundance has had some. One of our fellow Utahns had a baby quail hatch under his broody, having mistaken the egg for one of his OEGB's eggs. The broody is acting like she won't accept it yet. In the event that he has to find a new home for it, is anyone interested? It's just a wild quail. Probably less than a week old. Terribly cute and peppy.

Well, I had an older neighbor come visit today. He has kept chickens before and loves them, but sold his last flock before winter. He's interested in getting more chickens. It's very possible that he will be taking a few of my birds for me, including my RIR, my BR, and my Barnevelder. He's also interested in a rooster, and he may take one of the half-Icelandic cockerels I have running around out there. It makes me happy to know that they might have another home with someone who cares for them, even if I cry when I have to let them go. My neighbor seemed very interested in my blue Ameraucana, too, but I'm not sure yet if I want to let her go so soon......

And (sorry for the novel) I checked the Icelandic eggs I have here last night. I've let them sit for two days, and the air cells in three stuck back to the shell!

Got a few more than are semi-stuck, and a couple that are downright loose. I put them all under one of the broodies last night, and I'm feeling more hopeful than I did when I first got them. Sphinx, thank you again for helping me with these eggs, too!

Congrats on both counts!

Oh and Sara, that cake is making me salivate. Seriously. Nice job!
